When we have a direct free kick we should just let Martinez thump it as hard as he can. At the very least he'll knock some teeth out hopefully. Secondly our throw ins are shit too. Why can't we just recycle it instead of just using at as a shit set piece and throw it back to the opposition. Occasionally to slow the game down its fine. The throw ins are a very simple overview of our entire play. Lack of movement and limited options. We have been like this for many years, no quick or smart movement and I would guess we lose possession at least 30 to 40% of the time when we get one. It really needs addressing Its been going on for some time now, before the Prem. It appears to me we don't like attacking the ball in the air. The best Header of the ball is Hause and he doesn't get a look in....actually Ollie is not bad. The best striker of the ball is El Ghazi and he is in and out. I just can't work out how rarely Mings does that nowadays....think back to our promotion season and he seemed to be scoring every other week. I know defenders are better here but he's scored twice in about 70 games...honestly thought he'd be a 5 a season man and he barely gets infront of others to get headers in. Said before but I'd like to see Targett take more of our set pieces. He hit in a nice cross we nearly scored from second half and Luke Shaw was taking some of the Man. Corners, again it's that lack of ball winners. Konsa seems to win more than any other player currently in the team but bearing in mind past teams ( including us under GT) gained a significant amount of goals from set pieces, yet we throw that part of our game out the window. From set pieces we should expect 12 to 15 goals per season as a minimum. Oddly we are on target for that despite our obvious lack of aerial ability. It really needs addressing Why do the players stand behind each other in small clusters of two or three, like we are hiding our position/run, it never pays off.
