I think that there’s a bit in this Will Hughes rumour. He only has a year left on his contract and is refusing to sign a new one. He is currently training away from the rest of the team according to a mate of mine who supports Watford. He is certain that Hughes is off to another PL club. It was reported that Shakespeare is a massive fan. Seems possible I think.

To be fair to him, Italians seem to be fairly decent at producing good goalkeepers. Maybe he was afraid of ending up like Joe Hart, Rob Green, David James or ....

To me, he always looked like a keeper that was going be very good. He just struggled with adapting a bit like De Gea did when he came over as a youngster. He would have been a perfect signing at the end of last season after his few seasons at Atalanta. However, I won't argue with the one that we ended up with.

Things also might have been different had Cutler been on the staff when he was here. He might have convinced him that there are decent GK coaches in England.

I'm fairly sure he worked under a few different nationalities at Man Utd but then again he's leaving Atalanta at the same time as the Italian goalkeeping coach, who has been there the whole time Gollini has been.

It could have been a thinly veiled dig at the quality of the coaching under Steve Bruce or it could have genuinely been a case of Gollini only wanting to work with compatriots, either way there is no fault attached to the Aston Villa name in letting him go IMO. We have consistently had keepers that are better than he was (at the time) since he's gone and him leaving was good for all parties I think, all things considered.

I don't believe any of the stories linking us to McNeill, Pereira, or Danjuma, we're already have plenty of wingers, I suppose the suggestion is that one will come in and Grealish will move into the middile, but the fact that we were bidding for Smith Rowe suggests to me that it's a specialist ACM midfielder that we want, and Grealish will stay out wide. I think we will sign a ACM and it will probably be someone we haven't been linked with, which kind of makes sense as Smith Rowe is the only ACM that we've really been linked with.

Smith Rowe plays centrally for Arsenal it's obvious that that's where we wanted him to play for us, as a replacement for Barkley. Not sure what this recent obssesion is with people thinking we're signing ACMs to play on the wing and wingers to play as ACMs.

WF/Winger. My understanding is ESR was being pursued to play wide. I think it's going to be another player to allow Jack to switch centrally.
