3-2 loss vs Palace. Watching the highlights again. Jesus christ why on earth did we ever think elmo was OK as a backup this year. At fault for all 3 goals. Although McGinn was also culpable for the first one.

I don't think may of us did, except for Smith and the coaching staff??

I would definitely have kept Freddie and sold Elmo to Bruce last summer!

Not convinced Guilbert is any better than Elmo.

Alli is allegedly on £125k a week so that's an instant no on that basis alone

Barkley was on £100k wasn't he? That level doesn't appear to phase us.

Not that I am saying that I would want to pay Dele Ali that type of money.

This is the problem that the big clubs have when players go wrong (tbf we had it at a lower level with Hogan) where they have players that are on too much money to offload as a level down club cannot afford to take on those wages.  If the selling club do want to offload desperately then this should, in theory, lead to a very/relatively low transfer fee though as someone is going to have to take those wages on.

laughable rag

So if Smith-Rowe doesn’t join, we keep our squad together and have a great season.
However, if he DOES join, players are suddenly going to leave.

Makes you wonder what Smith-Rowe has been up to 👀

It appears that we are after a ACM/LW to play with Jack and Emi and replace Barkley.

Who would people prefer out of those linked so far:

  • ESR
  • Ali
  • McNeil
  • Alvarez
  • Pereira
  • Cantwell

Any others?

ESR No1

I know very little about Alvarez

McNeil I’m unsure about

The rest- Nooooooo

I’d take Alvarez in a shot as he can play AM/ST as well as RW. We just need to take the occasional bet on a player and for the reported £15m he would be a bargain.

And with both Emi’s in our squad - plus Wes, Luiz - the risk of him not settling should be much less.

As for ESR, I’d only want him if there was a genuine intent to build a team around Jack and not as an insurance policy.

Why are we not going after Pereira?  25 (same age as Jack), consistent performer at PL level, 1 G/A every 2 games on average at a terrible team... this obsession with ESR is really intriguing.

Perhaps Dean Smith doesn't rate him as highly as you do?

That's kind of an obvious answer.  However, I am intrigued as to why.

5 years difference is the only thing I could see.  Mad to think 25 is over the hill..

I think their playing styles are quite different. Smith-Rowe more of a ball carrier and plays with more energy and intensity.

I do like Pereira though, for the record.

Our recruitment team (or someone in the hierarchy) clearly massively rate him.

Out of interest how many times have you watched both players?

All these links need to be reminded....We are not a rehabilitation centre and Dean and his coaches are not magicians.

up and coming talent is required.....We have experience with Ash , Tyrone and Emi M.

However, players who have lost their Mojo are a gamble ( like we saw with Ross) and should be valued accordingly...we might want to go for the odd one.

We should be going for Ben White if he's available. Very good ball-playing CB who'd have a big impact going forward against weaker sides and challenge Konsa & Mings. We struggled against defensive sides to progress the ball last season unless we went ahead early.

Also, Arsenal are going for him, which would make it extra funny.

£50million for a CB? Not for me, not a priority at all.
