Watkins will start every game up front if fit and not suspended, like last season. We're not signing Tammy for 40m to provide competition and he wouldn't want to come "to fight for the shirt".

This

Tammy gets out of Chelsea cos he's struggling to get games

So he comes to us where he won't be an automatic starter? Not happening is it

And you look at us with all our needs and FFP restraints and say that we need to spend £100m this summer on 4 or 5 players, £40m on someone who isn't a guaranteed starter doesn't make sense for us right now

Agree that when we get there we will need someone like Tammy as our back up... But we aren't there yet

I agree we aren’t spending 40m on a back up striker.  Tammy is an alternative and Tammy and Ollie will fight for the shirt.  Why some Villa fans only think of 11 players is bizarre in a squad game at the top level.  We don’t buy back up we buy an alternative.

We have to start thinking like a top 6 or 8 team if we are going to realise that position.

Tammy did well for us but there is better value out.

Spending 40m on someone that doesn't improve our starting 11 is pretty stupid. When we start finishing 6th, then yeah I agree but we finished 11th.

Replace players with better players that makes a better squad. We need a DCM and LW/CAM. That will improve the starting 11.

This why someone like Alvarez makes a lot more sense, fee is much lower , covers up top if need be and a lot more potential

Worst case he plugs a gap that Barry fills in 2 years time

Much better and more realistic signing

I find it amazing that supporters are writing off a 23 yr old striker with two years experience playing full time as a striker in the PL, who is no where near the finished article.

Different games suit different strikers and to have either Abrahams or Watkins on the bench to change things in a game when required would put us ahead of most teams in the league. Sometimes you need the ability to change things during a game, something we weren’t able to do in many games last season.

Do I believe the rumour, No, Smith said he would be waiting until preseason to determine where Wesley is at, but nothing would surprise me.

he wants regular first team football. Villa can’t guarantee him this

I agree with all of that

But I do not see Tammy accepting that role

Someone else will offer him something similar but with European football on the side or 1st choice every week which we can't

I've never been a fan of him, no doubt his goals got us up but feel he doesn't work half as much as Ollie.

The Abrahams thing really bugs me, always hear it in commentary, where has the s come from?

Because we are not capable of playing any other system or formation that doesn't involve just one single striker up front?????

The lack of faith in Deano is staggering

I don’t agree with this….40m for a proven PL striker is market value plus he’s only 23.  Cheaper will either be from lower league or foreign league and a complete risk.  Smith has said he wants proven PL players, Tammy fits that for the right price.  I think he’s the right price, we know he fits this club and proven.

You don’t agree which is fine, I hope the rumour is true and Tammy comes back.

Nobody can at the clubs he’s likely agree to go to.  He’s not coming here to sit on the bench he’s coming here to fight for the shirt, that’s the difference.

Why don't you understand why Smith doesn't and won't play 442?

Because in the past he hasn't had the players and quality to do so. Does any modern manager really only ever play one formation for an entire season?

At no point has Smith stated he won't play 442

That's why the west ham link is the most realistic

He'd have a very good chance of being 1st choice and they have europe

It doesn't even have to be a traditional 442 to accommodate two strikers.

Also Kane and Son is fairly inspirational porn if you like that kind of thing.

You mean like he has done at Chelsea the past two seasons? He only played 90min approx 8 times in the PL last season, he would get more than that at Villa.

You can throw comments out to suit a narrative, but he would get more football at Villa than he did last season at Chelsea.

Yet he can’t do it at Chelsea?

He’s not even getting in the squad, Tuchel has completely bombed him out.  He was doing fine competing before Tuchel came in.  Not sure the issue with Tuchel.
