When you’ve got a finite budget you have to make best use of it and maybe they see Hughes a step worth taking for a season or two whilst Chucky & hopefully Sarr progress in the background. Ramsey may be given a championship loan I suspect. what’s more likely is the ability to change from the 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-2-1 i.e in the latter you have jack and buendia in the wing forward roles. luiz is probably the anchor in the midfield 3 with JWP (hopefully), McGinn, Sanson fighting for two spots and being fluid enough to move between the relevant positions. there is easily enough room for at least one top class midfielder. 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Hughes is a lazy link for me. He's a good player but will not improve the first team. Smith and Purslow have repeatedly said we are looking for quality over quantity. Indigo Posted June 11, 2021 Share Posted June 11, 2021 I think our progress coupled with the ambition we have makes it hard to discern what level of player is realistic for us to be bringing in this summer. Will Hughes is a decent player and I wouldn't turn my nose up in any of the god knows how many recent seasons, but that area of the pitch is one where we aren't necessarily short on depth and he doesn't represent a significant enough upgrade on any of the starters for it to make a huge amount of sense. Wes Posted June 11, 2021 Share Posted June 11, 2021 I think we're going to be looking at a young Centre Back to eventually take over from Mings to partner with Konsa within the next couple of seasons. Tuanzebe maybe because of the previous link there. He is someone who I think will leave Manchester this summer as he only has one year left on his deal and United are looking to sign Varane or some other Centre Back to partner with Maguire. I think our board will look elsewhere - someone with a profile like Loic Bade from RC Lens who is showing significant potential at a very early age and is comfortable playing on the left side, if not necessarily left footed. Injuries haven’t helped him on making an impact at Man Utd despite their recent defensive frailties (compared to their usual standard of player) I don’t think he’s any better than what we currently have. great memories of him playing for us but I wouldn’t rush trying to resign him.
