I can’t see this happening at all. There’s absolutely no need for us to sign another CM especially one who isn’t really going to push our existing players. Another made up one I think, bloody Villa Report with that click bait 😉

Ugh...  More recycled transfer links from last summer...  Hughes isn't even good enough for the bench...

Not sure I agree with the negative reactions to Will Hughes, he's a very good player, Watford's form soared when he returned from injury this season just gone and most of their fans will tell you he was their best player in the premier league, always impressed me whenever I've watched them. If we signed him, McGInn and Sanson or any other midfielders would have to perform consistently well to keep him out of the starting eleven.

Thought I remembered him as attacking mid off the bench when Watford in PL. 2 goals 0 assists last season??? Transfermarkt has him listed as not in squad early season not injured? I think he's lower table PL team player at best

He was injured and when he came back he played as a deep-lying-midfielder which probably explains his stats, people read to much into stats anyway, it seems to be happening more and more on here, but you can't judge a player on those alone, something that's especially true for central midfielders.

Also as one of their best players, if not their best, he was a regular starter for Watford in the premier league. To be frank I think it's a close call as to who is the better player out of him and Ward-Prowse, maybe Ward-Prowse edges it with his set-pieces and because of those set-pieces would be more valuable to us, but if you look at just general play then I'm not so sure.

I don't particularly want us to sign him, but would be far from disappointed if it was to happen.

I suspect he's going to sign a new deal with Watford and they can then make a big deal out of how they managed to keep hold of him despite interest from other clubs.

He is great for a yo-yo club, but that's his level.  He's on the same level as a Mark Noble when he was his age.  There is nothing spectacular about his game, at all.  He was touted as a future England star when he broke through for Derby as a youth team player, but he has failed to live up to any of the hype.  Watford is his level.

Now you're just trolling...  JWP is one of the best CMs outside of the top 6 in the Premier League and would walk into our starting 11.  Hughes would be lucky to make the bench behind Sanson and Nakamba.

I'm not 'trolling', I think you're being vastly ignorant of Will Huges quality, and overrating Ward-Prowse. Also far from struggling to make the bench, he'd get plenty of game time for us, he's probably a more consistent performer than any of our current central midfielders.

I think it's the muted low fee. For £8m maybe the club think it's worth a punt as a squad/fringe player.

I don't think anything will come of the Hughes link anyway, I'd say he's very similar to McGinn and Sanson, not much to seperate them, McGinn at his best the better player, but Hughes the more consistent performer, Sanson not sure about but has a good pedigree in the game so hoping he's going to surprise people with how good he is next season, I think people are judging Ramsey too early as well and he could surprise people with how good he can be.

I can see the low fee being attractive but in central midfield we have numbers, what we need is quality. I haven’t seen much of him recently but from what I’ve read I don’t think he improves on what we already have. I believe the aim is to buy up grades on what we’ve got which in turn strengthens the bench.

Hughes is exactly the kind of marquee and best case signing we would have made before the new owners came in.

Sensible but utterly lacking in any ambition whatsoever.

Like Dawkins and Sylla.

Thinking back those times were pretty depressing.

I think we’ve got enough in that department, especially with the youngsters coming though to get some game time.

Imo Buendia has set the bar for the calibre of signing we will see this summer (I hope) I don't think we will see that many coming in, but hopefully bigger profile players to go straight into the first team without upsetting the balance too much rather than Will Hughes/ Josh King  type squad fillers that aren't going to push us forward.

Exactly.

They're the type of players I would expect to see arriving at Newcastle etc.

Unless they can play as a specialist 6 or 10, or we sell one or two of McGinn, Luiz, Ramsey, Sanson, which I can't see happening, I don't see any CMs coming in.

I don't particularly want us to sign him as we have similar and if we're going to sign another midfielder would like someone who can offer something we don't already have, but Huges is way better than is being made out on here, he's a good player and I bet if we was to leave Watford he'd end up at a decent midtable team, maybe somone like West Ham or Wolves, Leeds would probably do well to look at him as well.

Of the midfielders we've been linked to Sarr seems the most interesting, just based on the descriptions he's the kind of player that we've been without for a while now, and of course it's always exciting to be linked with someone that's potentially an up and coming star in the game.
