Thanks. Great response. I've had a few beers and my response was a bit snarky but I've been upset with lot of comments lately about get rid of Nakamba. I think he's a good squad member and in saying that I think Smith only uses him for certain games but think he's really effective and useful to have

Haha no worries man, we're definitely all guilty of it. As I said I love Marvelous myself, you can't really deny what he offers and it'll continue to be a valuable option even next season, and as much as anything he's just a terribly likeable guy. At the same time though if "progress" is the buzz terms we're all aiming for then I can see why people have identified that area of the pitch as one where improving on it could be key as the players we have there in the squad are specialists in their own way and don't have the more rounded qualities that ones of some of the better sides do. Saying that though I personally wouldn't have it as a priority this summer and not sure that it is one, particularly if we're only going to be bringing in 2 or 3.

I don’t agree with many of your posts but I agree with this one. Have another beer, you’re improving. 😀

I think Jack is best at LW so priority for me is CAM that Barkley was supposed to be so Pereira ticks a lot of boxes including coming from same area relegated team and sorts out set pieces. Other than that LB RB CB cover in that order and back up striker if Wesley not capable of return. I would like some youth players to get integrated too

From what I can gather from Brentford fans, Watkins did well for them in his first season as a winger scoring ten goals and providing eight assists and having good all round play, but was less impressive in his second although he still managed ten goals that season as well and five assists, and was apparently carrying an injury that season. They didn't just randomly decide to play him through the middle that was something that they had planned for him, he'd actually already played through the middle at Exeter.

Cash was RM until they switched him to RB for one season and was revelation then we signed him

? Not seeing what that has to do with ollie who averaged 11 goals and 7 assist per season playing out wide moving to CF out of necessity for Brentford but someone claiming it was only done because he "wasn't that great out wide".

I think Smith doesn't want to play a dedicated DM. He'd rather play double pivot with ball players like Luiz and McGinn but he realises Nakamba usefulness and played him 6 full games for 5 wins and 1 draw so Smith is a bit of a genius in that regard. Maybe we would've got more results with Nakamba playing more games but that may go against Smith's swashbuckling ideals

He also gives Villa’s midfield a lot more energy. Would have him in the team instead of Luiz every time as Luiz is a nothing player.

I think Luiz generally had a poor season but there's some goals we've scored with a ball played fast out of defence on counter and Luiz is playing the release ball that sets it up

He started coming deep to get the ball again towards the end of the season and I thought we looked much better for it.

how did they get so badly into debt pre-covid troubles if all the prem money went on servicing debt?!

I don't think they are in real debt they are just poor and the only way they can dip into the transfer market is sell their better players and reinvest.

Seems they actually finished last season 2mil in the black despite covid.

2m in the black sounds more like it, they can't have had a premier league wage bill and they didn't spend.

Dejan Kulusevski would be nice (but probably wouldn't happen). Would love to have another Swedish player (from Stockholm too!) playing at Villa.

Probably? No chance!

Preece saying we're spending the bulk of our money on Buendia? If that's the case, we better hope we can find some gems for 5-10m abroad...

If that's true, I imagine it'll be Grealish, Watkins and Buendia to be our attacking trio.  Sanson, McGinn and Luiz behind.  Wesley/Davis, Traore, El Ghazi, Ramsey, Chukwuemeka and Nakamba as backup for those places.  Seems alright for depth to me - certainly stacked at the top end of the pitch, though obviously need Grealish fit for the majority of the season.

We do need a new LB though and I'd like to see a central defender added as well.

Would have no problem with spending bulk of our budget on Buendia,  love if we could go get maybe someone like Olise aswel,  after that two young fullback covers for either side and for me that would be great window
