Fully on board the Koopmeiners train now after spending the afternoon researching him. Him, De Paul and Buendia would be lovely. Thanks Dean.

We most certainly will not be signing Milinkovic Savic, and while a very good player he is not the DCM or ACM specialist that people are asking for although he usually plays a more advanced role for Serbia.

Edit: While not really that similar he's kind of a much, much better version of Sander Berge who also isn't the DCM people are hoping for. They did both come through in Belgium and at one point Lazio were looking at Berge to replace Savic if he was sold.

We won't be signing him as loads of clubs are apparently after him for the last few windows, I got fed up hearing his name on sky sports news.

"I noticed our new head of recruitment praising Sambi Lokonga on his twitter, plays in midfield. Never heard of him watched some highlights looks a decent player, mentioned Jonathon David in the same tweet as well."

I wonder if either of those two could be an option for us

David could be an excellent signing and one I think that fits the mould of player we’re going for. Young and value will only rise. He’d push Watkins for a start or could even play with him or on the wing. Not sure how much he’d cost..

He'd certainly be a marquee signing. Remember there was a lot of hype about him going into the World Cup a few years ago, though he didn't quite live up to expectations. He'd certainly transform our team - think he's a box to box midfielder so would be useful at both ends of the pitch.

He looks a player. Shame about that music though. ; )

I recall how horrified I was at the kinds of players we were signing under Lambert too.... wtf... amazed that we weren’t relegated sooner.

‘twas torrid.

Most of them were under 25 when we signed them so terrific resale value aswel.....oh.

Just a reminder that sort of strategy has its limitations aswell so it needs to be a bit of both going forward. Also happened a bit under O'Neill, was surprised we signed Curtis Davies when he was only 22 and yet 3 years later had to basically give him away to SHA for about 3m, got more for Zat Knight in the end.

Yes wouldn't shock me. I think I mentioned him last summer given he'd done well in Belgium which we love.

Slow start at Lille...just two goals up to January but really exploded second half of the season for them to push on towards the title....10 goals in his last 16 games so fits profile of someone we could sign who wouldn't be first choice straight away but could grow during the season as he has done there.

I'm pretty sure the season back when Montpellier won french league they still sold likes of Giroud to Arsenal and Monaco lost loads of their good players after their title win so don't think Lille winning French league will make huge amount of difference or make their players impossible to get but of course the task will remain convincing them we're a good long term bet.

I really want a signing where people stand up and say, ‘wow’. Not a Watkins type signing (albeit he is brilliant), a Soumare, Aouar, Fekir type signing. Somebody that has been courted or linked with the top clubs but ends up at Villa.

They don’t always work out, but that next level signing will push us... to the next level.

I’ve already told my boss not to expect much work out of me if a foreign journalist with a blue tick links us to a player I’ve never heard of before. That’s me done for the day.

Would them players mentioned really be wow signings. Would barely make s media print
