For the fourth time Ward-Prowse was an example of a player who I think we need who is PL quality. Villa lack creativity from the centre and a dead-ball specialist. He was/is a player I think who would have improved us this season and he is improving every season in terms of statistics.

De Paul and Buendia yes of course they are cheaper but they don't play where Ward-Prowse does. My point is we are poor in the middle of the park in giving the ball away, inviting pressure and creating.

£60 million was just a number I picked it doesn't mean anything, Transfer Markt has his current value at just over £25 million.

I get your point, some folk take things too literally.

I suspect the biggest DM signing that we will make is a new contract for Douglas Luiz, whether we sign anyone else will be dependent on whether Nakamba stays or not. There seems to e an obssession with bringing in a 'big tall strong' DM, but get this, most of the players being suggested don't even play that position, and that's because in general big tall strong midfielders don't tend to play as defensive midfielders these days.

£60 million on James Ward-Prowse. He would give us a threat from set-pieces and more legs in the middle.

Bench McGinn.

Hard not to take that literally...

Age is just a number, I really like the fact we have a young team because it means the majority of them will get better over the years but if the right player is available that is older than our usual profile then they would be very welcome. Even if just to come off the bench and make an impact.

I still think decent European players would be interested, we beat Liverpool 7-2 this season, we played some awesome football earlier on in the season and players will look at that too when they consider a move. We're also ambitious and I'm sure the owners would be more than happy to pull out their 5 year plan to sell the project to potential signings who want to be sure the club matches their ambition.

Players are aware in the main of what they are joining......Jack and JT will be an obvious attraction.

Just asking a question, would Deans lower profile, be a hinderance to that......Not a loaded question, just interested in the response.

I agree with that, bit steep Imo.....but I think he just took a stab at a figure.

I was talking in general, not aimed at you Jas.

Anyone mentioned Thauvin going randomly on a free to some club in Mexico? What’s that about??!

Possible a NSWE post but, realistically how much may they invest this summer? What are the possibilities?

Purslow made it clear with Sanson that if there's good business to be had, the the owners will always back them.

Theoretically with whole season of Covid, TV rebates, couple of big clubs maybe not getting into the CL there's every chance of some absolute steals. Clubs will definitely be balancing the books.

100m could buy you 150-200m of players.

I think most posters who mention this are probably really saying that we need a bit more athleticism in midfield, a bit more power. And I think we do. And that extra athleticism and power doesn’t have to come at the cost of ability. Look at our regular midfield 3……Luiz, McGinn, Barkley…..for me that’s not enough when it comes to the very top sides. Not enough power, not enough pace, not big enough physically.
I mentioned Ndombele in an earlier post, if he was an option in our midfield then we’d have won some games that we lost this season, notably the two games against Utd, with OGS seemingly sussed out that a powerful and athletic midfield beats Villa…..which it does in those games against the top sides. A good big’un always beats a good lit’lun, as they say. Villa need one or two good big’uns.

I'd look at France for a bargain or two with the financial situation they are currently experiencing.

Didn't he cost £65m last season?

Yeah. Leicester about to get the Soumare for about 25m. A couple of years ago I would have thought 40,45m for a player of his age, athleticism and quality.

A dagger through the heart of whats wrong with us IMO.

My worry is our answer will be some more offensive players, to add to the ones we already have......Our issue, is where you have depicted.

We can score goals, very few games we have failed, what we fail to do is control games and contain the opposition from scoring, we concede the initiative in the middle as you say.....but I wouldn't hold your breath that we will strengthen there, I fear we are focused too much on the offensive player.

I think Jack, Ollie and Bert could be as good as it gets for us, sure we need back ups.......but ,its behind them that needs a similar standard of attention, to the front.

Absolutely agree, we need an improvement in the middle. This would also protect Traore and Cash.

What we have right now, is a team with great passages of play, but no glue or cohesion to galvanise it all in to a team.....A Gareth Barry, would be great.

However, I do think when they have identified the missing link, a Marquee signing this time might be key.

This was exactly my point previously and lost on most it would seem.

Someone who all-round is a step-up on what we have but is capable from set-pieces.

I defined Ward-Prowse as that player, his stats this season and last in comparison to McGinn are better from his recoveries per game, to his ability on the ball and retaining possession. He gets more goals and more assists than any other player we currently have in CM yet he is supposedly rubbish according to the masses.

Ward-Prowse maybe is unrealistic but the sentiment remains.

It's ok to agree to disagree but it's not that simple when the statistics tell you differently.

And I'm out...

I agree...I would take Ward Prowse, for his industry alone....but its all down to money and what they would want.

but as you know, I would prefer Soucek or Rice for obvious reasons of presence and they control the middle.....the players are out there, we just have to spot them and secure them.

I know exactly what you meant that type.....I wish we could find another Gareth Barry.....

It strikes me, unless they can do a "Rabona" we switch off......We need substance above superficiality.

I'd honestly go a bit more on a proven midfield player personally rather than another project....as it is I'm not certain we'll even get another midfield in this summer given we have already 4-5 options for just 2 spots if Jack plays more central next season.

So like a few positions I'd rather have a real difference maker in there.

Said it before but Milenkovic Savic has been linked to loads of top clubs but no one has taken him. Lazio going to miss out on top 4 so financially will be a big blow to them in these times.

He's just turned 26, 6ft 3, regularly hits double figures in Serie A and can play as attacking midfielder or slightly deeper as McGinn type. If people are looking for Soucek type to me he's ideal if you want to spend 40-50m on a CM and sort who would push us into top 6 bracket of clubs. Overall 40 goals in just under 200 games for them. Norway fans will also know of him from this season.😉

West Ham signed Felipe Anderson from Lazio about 3 years ago for 40m so you can get those type of players out of clubs even if he flopped a bit and they had to loan him out.

Milinkovic-Savic would be an incredible (and very expensive) signing, very unlikely though. Would strengthen our MF significantly and allow us to mix it with the top sides.

Seems like a waste for someone who can still cut it at the top level.

you explain the point eloquently.....but if folk can't see it, they can't see it.

lets just hope the management can.

someone mentioned Sergej Milinkovic-savic.....now he looks just the job on paper.
