Summer transfer window 2021

I think we should look at some of the "big 6" youth/under23 players and see if there are any good bargains there.

Reiss Nelson, Emile Smith Rowe (don't think he's realistic thou after getting all this game time),  Harwood-Bellis (who's on loan from City at Blackburn), Tomori (think he's going to Italy permanently though), Guéhi (who's been at Swansea), and Gallagher all come to mind.

Lingard's doing well, but before long his form will drop off to it's typical level, and people will go back to not rating him again and this current spell will be remembered as that of a  ephemeral flash in the pan. He was never as bad as some made out, but equally based on the evidence of his career up until now he isn't as good as his current form suggests. Also I think a most were against the idea of swapping Lingard for Grealish rather than signing Lingard in isolation.

Someone's gonna get stung for £35m in the summer and soon see his form disappear

He's doing really well at finding space, playing between the lines and popping up at the right moment but you would have thought that with it on tape a good manager with a good DMC should be able to nullify him

Ampadu probably most realistic of that lot. His loan to Sheffield united hasn't gone that well but can play CB and DM as he does well for Wales. Thought we might've gone for him last summer so perhaps suggests he's not a target.

Anyone been following Ryan Kents progress at Rangers.

Feels like we need to flip all of our wingers now.

He’s not good enough for the PL. Lacks the size and the pace. We are desperate for both of those things. He has been great for Rangers though this season.

Hopefully all players we sign now will be physical and fast. We are so lacking of those qualities in the team. We need set piece specialist too.

Bang on.

Not seen a Rangers game all season, from what you say I'd put our kids in the frame before RK then but ideally we need need serious upgrades as you've detailed.

just shows how barkley has totally missed a trick. yes he got injured, but there's a good chance lingard will be on the plane to the euros. that could've been ross if he kept his early season form up and probably got himself a big money move too.

Think we’ll try and sign 4/5 good additions again this summer.  These positions would be:

RCB - Engels will go I reckon. I would look to the Championship here and Nathan Collins. Good age to sit behind Konsa and play several cup games or step up if/when Konsa gets injured.  Otherwise, if we went for experience, then John Egan would be a useful pick up, however not sure he’d be happy being on the bench or not being first choice.

LB - Taylor will go this summer.  Henry is the obvious choice here but would be expensive. Lee Buchanan at Derby could be one to look at.  Otherwise Aaron Hickey again or Greg Taylor? Targett certainly needs competition and shouldn’t be guaranteed every game.

Mid - Barkley to return and Hourihane possibly to Swansea. Nakamba has shown us how limited he is. Ramsey may benefit playing a full season on loan in the Championship perhaps?  An addition here in the number 10 role and possibly a defensive minded player? Don’t think we’ll pursue Barkley but could be wrong as we may have dedicated a lot of money on him already? Dele Alli on loan for next season anyone? Olise from Reading is an obvious one but Josh Dasilva is someone that could be considered as an alternative from the Championship. Sander Berge has been mentioned already and not to everyone’s liking but Guendouzi could be an option also.

Wide Forward/Winger - Trez or El G or both may go.  Brooks, Mbeumo, Sarr, Buendia, Cantwell are obvious thoughts and improvements from the Championship.  Lookman has looked good this season, as has Peraira in patches.  Marcus Edwards is easily forgotten in Portugal and comes to mind here. Have mentioned either of the Sessegnon brothers previously. Ryan has lost his way a little but is still young and a very good player.  Steven isn’t pulling up any trees but both boys are very talented and seem like Smith signings.  The jewel for this position though would be Pablo Neto.  Probably a £40m-50m plus player already but would push us to the next level and would show our ambitions as a serious top ten club. If he went to someone like United, then perhaps Daniel James is an option?

Centre Forward/Striker - Woefully lacking in this area after Watkins. Imagine if Watkins missed ten plus games for us? I do worry about Wes but not for here. Davis I don’t mind but we can’t have him as our only main option from the bench next season.  Josh Maja is an option. Armstrong or Toney others? Daryl Dike looks to be a very good young player. Joao Pedro at Watford has impressed this season also.  Simply put, we need an addition or two in this area.

I do struggle with suggesting any European based players purely because my knowledge in this area is so poor. I see and hear names but know generally nothing about them, perhaps someone could do a similar European list?  However, I do think that Smith likes a home grown/based player anyway and think he’ll again concentrate his recruitment from here. Looking forward to an exciting summer.

Just shows that fans don't always know best!

Thing is he could have been meh for us.

Didn’t Grealish and Konsa come from the Championship?

Some on here think someone like Saint Maximn wouldn't be good enough for us?!

He's come on and within five minutes turned a 0-1 into 2-1 and Burnley are terrified of him everytime he picks up the ball.

A level above Trez and AEG and we desperately need that type in our first 11 next season.

sounds like Trezeguet vs Fulham ;)

i still wouldnt want him, he's a dumbleweed.

Granted he has done well at Spam, but he cant continue the near goal a game forever, he will settle down to average form at some point.

Maxim would be an excellent signing.

However, his price tag would probably be waaaay too high for us.

How many players are Spuds, Chelsk etc going to sign from the Championship.

You missed the point. T get better, keep Jack, we need proven quality, not potential

i do see your point and agree with its general sentiment, however we would also be a much better team than we are now, if we had bought some of the other top championship talent, rather than players like Trez, El Ghazi and to a lesser degree Traore.

for example, Bowen, Benrahma, Eze just recently.

Also, lets not forget, Sissoko, Wijnaldum, Maddison, Bellingham, Doucoure, James, Cash, Watkins, Maguire, Konsa etc etc, were all signed from Championship or technically Championship sides.

However......i also agree we do need at least some proven high level talent this summer.
