We've signed, IMO, 5 very good players. Yes, we've lost one world class player, but overall, I would say we're stronger. All my opinion and not having a go. That’s fine and I don’t think you are having a go. Perhaps it’s the way I’m putting my point across which is allowing some posters to think that I’m demanding NSWE leave immediately or something… I mentioned above I’m happy with the signings as individuals - we have also signed some really talented youth players as well. But, I think we are now very unbalanced. If we have signed three players to replace Jack… then those three players need to be able to fit into the team somehow… so we aren’t just replacing Jack, are we? In addition to that, we haven’t addressed the CM problem which has been our main issue for years. The way that our business has been carried this summer makes me think the owners are reining it in a bit.

He really is very, very good. Red hot tonight for U23s Good to hear. Jas10
Are people underestimating, ignoring or overlooking Leon Bailey? The overhyped player that we sold got 7 goals and 12 assists last season…. Bailey got 15 goals and 11 assists. Yes, in a different league but that’s still a great record/season… and the Bundesliga is not so bad/weak, he’s only 24…

There's no way this window was a 6/10. We've improved our squad this window to the point where we had 7 first teamers out at the weekend, including our captain, and our top scorer from last season was only fit enough for the bench and we were still competitive in a PL match and earned a point. That would not have happened in the past 2 years. Well I'm taking into account the fact we've lost our captain and best player and player we've relied so damn heavily on over the last 3 years. I'm not sure you really are. You go on about stats, but stats alone don't compensate for his sale. Him just being on the pitch made us a miles better side. If he'd stayed and we'd signed the players we had, sure it's a smashing window. But we didn't and he will leave a large hole in our team make no mistake about it. He's arguably the best player in the league and is a £100 million player. Nothing we could do could match his impact with one player. So we've done the smart thing and signed 3 excellent players to help fill that void.

Personally, I don’t think it’s been a dreadful window, but it hasn’t been a good one like last summer. If the club have ambitions of getting into Europe then they’re in for a nasty shock. At best, I think we’ll stand still which oddly, I’m absolutely fine with. I’m also pretty confident that Smith will come under real pressure at some point this season. I’d like to think he’ll keep his job unless we’re hovering around 16th/17th at Xmas. Or the same three four people littering every post with negativity is just really, really, really boring 1

Might have saved a load of money there considering we have been linked to the likes of Dwight McNeil I have to say, with a decent chance he could be the Alvarez alternative, he plays without fear and has brilliant vision, feet and balance. He is quick and tricky which you don’t always get. He really is exciting. If we signed him now as a prospect we would be shouting about it in here. Archer also looks to be a late blossomer. Thorndyke and Iroegbunam look handy too. We all know about Carney.

So what's your solution, sign a bunch more players to fill the void of this stratospheric player, I don't get it? We replaced him with literally the most identical player in England right now, and added 2 other top top attackers on top of that for good measure. What else needs to be done to replace a guy who misses 1/3 of the season anyway? What is this large hole that he left that we didn't adequately plug and who should we get to plug it?

M_Afro
I’m glad it’s nearly over to be honest. It’s been a painful one this year despite actually making some great signings. I am a bit disappointed that we didn’t add to centre mid but we are yet to see the plan in anywhere near full flight! Yes, I do have serious reservations but we need to give it a chance now. If things don’t work out as planned we will hopefully have some room to move in January. No buying is always a better alternative to panic buying!
