honestly, i think if you put our first 11 alongside their first 11, imo the real major difference is the DM/MC pairing, ie: Soucek/Rice vs Luiz/McGinn/other.

their central pairing is nasty good.

Luiz/Nakamba, McGinn/Sanson, Ramsey/Cuhkwuemeka

We've 6 players and we have Young and Buendia who can play in there if needed.

Then we are not always going to play a 3 man midfield either. Ings/Watkins up top.

We're fine in midfield this season. Nakamba being replaced by an improved CDM who pushes Luiz to backup is the goal but we certainly aren't desperate for that right now if the right player isn't available.

Bolded is the key point here. There's no point getting in someone who isn't a definite upgrade on what we have. We're not desperate.

Ramsey is okay, but struggles to make 90 minutes, Chuka has proved he's just not ready for the Premier league, Nakamba is still Championship, Luiz and McGinn a bit temperamental and Sanson, I'm not sure he is going to make it.

Unfortunately, I agree

Probably the most negative post I've read on here for awhile.

Probably about the most realistic also

The question is though do we persevere with Ramsey and Chuk not quite being ready this season in the knowledge that they and we will benefit from it next season

And unless the perfect signing lands in our lap I think the clubs answer is yes

Nakamba is the only one I think we should consider replacing, all the others are fine for where we are now

Grealish wasnt a specialist LWF until maybe the last season or so. Players can play multiple positions or even learn new ones. Bailey already looks deadly from the left. Think we have that side covered.

Agree, Grealish wanted to play central.

Bailey actually is a left and right sided midfielder so probably more naturally suited to the LWF position than Grealish.

And guarantee that’s the position he has been signed to play in.

And for those that don’t think players are going to be doubling up on Bailey you would be greatly mistaken.

I also imagine players will also be doubling up on Buendia, and with Ings and Watkins stretching defences, I think we are in for a treat this season, and let’s not forget Troare!

And at the same time we will be blooding our youth into the first team. In all my years following Villa this is something Villa fans have dreamed of. Now we have it and its doom and gloom 😄

I'm not so sure being part of a struggling midfield in the PL is going to be any better for their development than being part of a midfield they can thrive in, even if its at a lower level.

I think we are done. Previous windows when Smith has said these same sort of things and we thought it was some big kind of smokescreen has turned out to be exactly how he says . Not happy about it but nothing i can do except support the decision

What time are we calling this window today? If we don't get wind of an incoming by midday then that is that IMHO. Maybe see one or two more out on loan.

There is always a chance we could get a big offer (big as in relative to the player's worth) for El Ghazi or Nakamba. If we do we may want to take it and try and push through a quick plan B that we will no doubt have if such a scenario comes about

Given the money everyone knows we have available, we would be playing it as we are regardless of being done or not. Therefore I think it harder to call than most windows. Wes and Hourihane, possibly Guilbert today going out, I think leaves a small chance of someone coming in, maybe a Lange special nobody saw coming. But probably not.
