Won't we have more wiggle room in terms of FFP after this season, certainly in regards to our wage structure.

yeah I believe one of the quotes from Purslow was along the lines of it takes a few seasons to get back to PL size wage structure and this would be year #3

Absolutely agree. I just don't believe Tammy would have any interest joining to compete with Ollie for the usually 1 starting spot.

I have a feeling we would say to tammy you will be main man here and try buold a team with ollie and tammy as opposed to competing against one another.

I do think ollie would be more on the left should tammy come in.

I think ollie would add a hell of alot on the left

Ollie and Jack operating in the 10, 11 positions (they'd naturally swap with each other throughout the game) with Tammy "just hanging" around the penalty spot would give most defenders a hell of a lot to think about.  Means that when Ollie does go wide we still have someone in the box as a target.  Means that we play to Ollie's strengths but don't lose any of his goal threat.  And we have another striker on the pitch to boot.  Also gives options to go to 4-4-2 if needed.  Again at times Ollie would probably drift into that formation by nature.  I think it would reduce the likelihood of Tammy being isolated up top - which has been a problem for Ollie at times.  There is just no-one near enough to him when he wins the ball sometimes.  Think it would give our midfield / defenders more options too - in terms of providing an extra "out" when they are under pressure or a good option when they have a bit of time / space and are looking for a "killer" ball.  Gives Wes more time to get properly fit too without us then being reliant on keeping one player fit all season long.

I have my doubts as to whether Watkins is technical enough to play out wide. I can’t see us spending a lot on a striker this summer, not when we desperately need a new wide player and a new central midfielder.

I expect us to bring in a youngish talent from abroad to play second fiddle to Watkins.

All this talk of playing Watkins wide misses one very important detail, the last time he had a season playing there he wasn't very good - ask Brentford fans - and that was at championship level, it was moving to centre-forward that got his career going again and earned him a move to the premier league. Playing Watkins wide on the odd occasion is okay, it might suit us presently for example, but I wouldn't presume he will be as good there as some imagine.

If we were to sign another striker then Watkins will just have to battle with that striker, rather than be shoe-horned into the team, we're allowed to have good players on the bench.

Hmmm not sure, I don’t think many teams have that much cash to throw around and those that do there is no guarantee they’d be interested in spending that much money if it wasn’t a priority position.

The hard part is getting Wolves to sell as he’s only 2nd year into a five year contract and on 50k per week but I heard he’s the chairman of the Portuguese Aston Villa Fan Club 😉

His footballing hero is Tiago Ilori

I think unless the youngish talent was real quality I really think that would be a really bad decision.  Another season without a quality alternative to Watkins is potential suicide given we don’t know how Wes is going to come back.  We only need an injury to Watkins and we are in trouble.

When you see the best team in the world starting Choupo Moting as centre forward, it indicates to me we wont be splashing big money on another striker. Not that other teams in the league have big money striker options, usually just one

I want Tammy back but I don't see us signing another CF to compete with Watkins. Watkins astonishing work rate in CF is key to how we play. Wesley will provide competition and can play in a more 10 role with Watkins if we need to.

The two absolutely critical positions we need and will sign are right sided forward to start and let one of Trez or El Ghazi leave.

We need a ball winning big defensive midfielder a Sander Berge type player. If we sign the right player we can free Luiz / Sanson up to  carry play forward and play McGinn more forward.

Then we should sign Olise who can play across the field, left right or central. With replacements for Taylor and Engels rounding out the transfers.

One team you base your assumption on and also that team is in Germany and he’s scored.  Other teams in the PL do have big money options

Agreed. We've two club record signings in CF 28 million and 22 million. Is signing a 3rd record signing in CF really what we need? Only way I see it happening is Wesley goes out on loan if a Tammy deal is possible for right price. But still I don't see Watkins as being as good in a wide role. How we play is key with his insane work rate, mans a machine. Man played 45 games last season and played 90 mins in all but 2 of them. Freak

Liverpool have Origi, Everton no idea who there back up is or West Ham or Leeds similar. Spurs had to loan a back up striker. United have 1 senior recognised centre forward in Cavani.

Arsenal, Chelsea, Leicester and City are the only teams with squad depth at centre forward

But Liverpool can play Mane, Firmino, Salah, Origi or even Jota in the centre forward position and have

Everton have Calvert Lewin, Richarlison and Josh King

Spurs have Kane, Son, Vinicius and Bale

United have Martial, Cavani and Greenwood or Rashford

Leeds have Bamford and Rodrigo

We have Ollie, then a likely 15-18 month injured Wes and Keinan ‘can’t get much game time’ Davis....a bit of difference to our rivals

We also have Traore. He has a very good goal scoring record at CF. I think if Watkins got injured Traore would be next choice currently and I think he'd do okay in terms of goal return. Currently nowhere near fit enough to do the defensive work of OW though.

But that misses the point that we have Jack.  Jack and Ollie would naturally switch between the wide left and more central 10 role.  A tricky winger would make it harder for Jack to find space by drifting inside.  Ollie's athleticism is fine for the times he does go wide.  We don't need him beating 3 men - he'd be pulling players out of position to give room for Jack attacking the edge of the box and Targett looking to overlap and get in a cross.

But why would we play OW11 wide when we could play a specialist winger, one that's proven in that position there. Would be like signing a new right back, and then moving Cash to the right wing just to shoe horn him in.

You look at the players I put for the other teams.  Would you then be happy if Watkins was injured for 5 to 10 games to see Traore in the centre forward position? I think I’d be very fearful of our chances compared to what our rivals have to choose from.

If Grealish is still injured now would be a good time to try Watkins in his position, with Davis through the middle. Watkins can play more as wide forward than a winger, but in allowing him to do so we'd probably have to ask our central midfielders to be hold back a little more than usual, similar to how Liverpool play.

I'd be happier with Traore up front than Josh King or Origi tbh.

The rest you have a point. More depth would be nice but I'd put a no 10, and a DM ahead in terms of importance this summer.
