WHY
Our squad has definitely improved but only time will tell if our starting 11 is better, once everyone is available and settled. Overall the window has been disappointing for me. It’s not being negative but out of all the sides in and around us we are the only ones who have lost their best player and he was our best player by some distance. As it stands I think a 10/11th place finish is the best we can hope for. Feels like an opportunity lost imo.

Yeah, might as well give up hope now and start planning for relegation... We only broke our transfer record for the 3rd summer in a row again for Buendia and added 4 quality players to the squad and while only losing one quality, but injury prone player. Definitely signals our owners have given up to me... Edited August 30, 2021 by KMitch

jacketspuds
As impressed as I've been with our youngsters, it does feel like we're cutting things a bit close by letting Guilbert and Hourihane leave without bringing anyone else in. I just hope that this "too good to turn down" deal crops up before the window closes.

It will continue like that 4 points from Watford, Newcastle and Brentford is improvement to you? Results and performances suggest squad needs a lot more work. I think losing Grealish has changed this season from one where we were going to mount a European challenge to one of transition. I think the club has chosen to add the proven quality that was available to us at the price we were willing to pay and now want to see how everything shakes out after they all gel, while holding on to the Grealish profits and reevaluate our needs over the course of the season.

I suspect the requirement from Metz to keep Sarr on loan for a season ruled us out of that one (it wasn’t price), but hopeful we’ll do a last minute swoop on Lens.

Beundia £35m Bailey £30m Ings £25m Three/four years ago we were bordering on bankruptcy as we couldn’t pay a £4m tax bill. Just let that sink in against your needy sense of entitlement. Popular Post Okonokos
Our squad is in very good shape; probably the best it's been in over a decade. This is only 3 years after being mid-table in the Championship. This is down to how the owners have run the club. Yes, I agree that we need one more high quality player, preferably in centre midfield but I won't cry if we don't get one. We have a good squad with some exceptional young players breaking through. Maybe the targets the recruitment team would ideally like to sign just aren't available right now. Would you rather us spend money willy-nilly and weaken our position regarding FFP for next season, just for the sake of it? Or would you rather wait and get the best deal for the player we actually want? Do you want us to go the Xia route and spend every single penny available, even if it is completely unsustainable? Isn't that what got us into the mess in the first place? We are still establishing ourselves as a Premier League team again. European football next season would be nice but I don't think it is the aim. Another solid season of consolidation would do just fine. We don't want Europe too soon as we would need far greater depth, something which can't be achieved overnight. Look at the last time we tried to buy a whole new team (15/16 and then 19/20 where we literally scraped survival). It makes far, far more sense to do it sustainably and over time. Some of the statements in here are so over the top, it's utterly embarrassing. It's not football manager or FIFA. We can't just childishly snap our fingers and say "sign someone". Yes, I would like another midfielder by Wednesday but I am totally fine if we don't get one. 7 3

How long are we going to keep referring back to what might have been? Yes, we were in the shit 3 years ago. We're not now, and our owners deserve (and receive) the adulation of the fans for that. But, that doesn't mean we're not allowed to assess the quality of the squad and state where we feel it could need improving.

Yes but we spent that 35mil (and possibly the next 30mil) even before getting an unexpected 100m windfall. It's not entitlement, it's just the knowledge that we have money to spend, and now we are in a profit this summer on transfer fees.
