McKennie could easily play as a box to box midfielder or a holding midfielder. He could even fill in at right back or right mid in a crisis and would do a job there. He's a quality player with high energy and workrate. Would absolute take our team by storm and improve us drastically.

6* including his goal in the champions league. McGinn Ramsey and Luiz scored 3 between them. The point was is that Mckennie really isn’t a CDM, and we are absolutely stacked in the position (no.8) he plays

The question is, is he better than all the other players in the " stacked " position?

If the answer is yes... Then.

To play how Dean seems to want to play, the most successful compromise is better all round CMs. Who have a bit of it all, Steel, Defense, Attack, Aeriel ability etc.

Watching Doucoures highlight video for example, people describe him as a " CDM ", however, while he seems outstanding in that area, he also has passing, skill, forward running, and shooting in his arsenal.

Stats would suggest he could perform the DM duty really well, just doesn’t seem the traditional type. More of an all action player like McGinn but he would be better in that role than John is…

Having a young, exciting, dynamic team is very appealing. Tenacious players who get in the opposition’s faces… maybe that’s what Dean wants from our midfield.

Honestly, he'd fit into our team so well. Only other player I know a bit about who would have a similar impact would be Ibrahim Sangare. I'd happily take either.

I think that’s the intention for sure, the way Dean wants his midfield to be. Rather than the way others want it to be with more specialist types. We do lack aerial ability, probably more than anything, in there though… and physicality…

To be honest two all action players as our middle two could work

It does make sense… McGinn, Sanson and McKennie are similar in that sense… Ramsey too. But then that’s at least 4 players competing for two spots…

Where would that leave Luiz? Would he need to adapt his role?

Although having a midfield 3 solidifies us… but it’s good to have the option of changing it up…

The midfield is quite a conundrum for Dean to solve…

Sangare would be ideal

Yeah which is more how Liverpool play with 4 3 3 where the 3 are primarily all rounders

McKennie good in the air then?

An attribute we could really do with in midfield. Also, we often just seem too lightweight n outmuscled/overpowered in games against difficult opposition… he could help us out.

Would be good to be able to switch systems/formations depending on the game and opposition… options…

I suppose we’d be relying mostly on our wingers for creativity…

Exactly. Without Jack our form was closer to 17th, which shows that saying the majority of our players are good enough for 5th-8th is nonsense

One player will not get you to 5th - 8th. The core of team need to be capable of playing at that level and the spark of a special player helps to push u there. Our team did not look out of place in the top half

We turned shit before he got injured, the COVID break screwed us up.

The Covid break saved us from relegation. We were dropping like a stone and had just lost 4-0 to Leicester. Then we had the Covid break and after that we started to pick up points

I think he meant the Covid outbreak at Villa in January when the kids had to play in the FA Cup. That in retrospect did appear to re-rail us

He looks great in the air which given we’ve just signed a set piece coach would be a welcome addition especially when Mings/Konsa don’t score many from set pieces.

The more you think about him the more ideal he seems. Trying to just tell myself it’s random rumours though which it most likely is.

That was the season before. The Covid break last season screwed us, mainly because our players had Covid.

If we play like Liverpool we will be seeing our full backs overlapping - no wingers in the traditional sense.
