Would love all three too, doesn’t Milenkovic also take a fair few free kicks as well, similar to JWP?

Milenkovic is a young CB who plays for Fiorentina.

Milinkovic-Savic is the player you’re thinking of, midfielder, and he is potentially world class.. has everything to his game and would be an absolute dream signing. Would cost £60m+ and we would have major competition for him if he was made available…would absolutely love it though, that would be a huge statement of intent.

Yes, he scored as many free kicks as JWP but is a far, far better player…

Doesn't matter regards defensive contributions. Buendia was 6th in Championship last season tackles per game. Most leagues you won't see attacking mid in top 20 probably not even top 30 players

I agree, but we still have a hole where Barkley played.

Dean Smith traditionally goes for a 6 and two 8's. The two 8's usually press with the front 3 and the back line with the 6 cover the spaces.

Don't be surprised if Luiz McGinn and Sanson are our starting midfield.

Harry Souttar I think would be a good addition at CB to develop and for cover.

Was he the defender that really bossed us when we played Stoke a while back or was that the CB that went to Burnley, forget his name now?

We need technical players who can maintain possession under pressure, rather than some 'big unit DM' which some people on here are fixated with.

We ideally need someone who is both big athletic and tough in the tackle, with good technique and passing.

I think we'll let Davis go and replace him with an WF/LW for decent money which tie in to the reason for the ESR bid and links to Alvarez. I think we'll also bring in another CB and that will be it. Young and Guilbert cover the FB positions and offer cover wide. Young is also a dead ball specialist which offers another option we've missed.

Unless one of Dougie or Nakamba go I cant see us bringing in another CM/DCM this year. I don't think we will have the capacity in the squad.

Yeah that's the one. He did drop off season gone. But the ingredients are there.imo

Some people hated Gueye "because doesn't score goals or assists". I'm sure someone has dredged up comments on here about him from years ago

My issue with him was he won the ball a lot, but gave it away too. That improved after he left, was great at Everton.

Was top in calendar year for tackles and interceptions in the big 5 leagues. That's a DCM. They break up play like Nakamba. Some people want one and then when we get and they do the job it's like nah don't like him, doesn't do amazing passes, only does short passes backwards or sideways

Exactly. I like Nakamba, he just doesn’t seem to have a very high ceiling. I wouldn’t move him on but I can see him being used sporadically again.

Nakamba is very good for what we paid for him. We have very rich owners but just came out of Championship 2 seasons ago and FFP exists. We've done very well with some of our squad signings

A little reminder that stats don’t always tell you everything…

How is he only 69th percentile in blocks. He blocked the most shots in the league whilst playing fewer minutes than Mings, Mee and Tarkowsi.

So do we fix it by adding a player who mainly help us keep the ball better and in more dangerous positions, or do we do it by adding a player that mainly helps us retake the ball when we don't have it

We need a player that can do both. I don’t see it as an either or. I accept that such a player may be hard to find/get but that should be our aim.

It does sound like Buendia will bring hard work and aggression to the midfield so he may solve the problem to some extent. What I think we need though is someone commanding who dominates the middle of the pitch. I’m thinking of a Patrick Vieira type. So if Johan wouldn’t mind popping out and picking up one of those, that’ll do just fine.

I’ve no problem with a big unit, but I absolutely agree he must be able to play quality football first and foremost.
