Double Glazing Costs

Without wanting to get all Mumsnet, anyone got much of an idea of costs?

I am thinking of getting the front Upstairs and Downstairs bay window done (the type with a large flat front window and angled windows either side of it, i.e not an 8 pane curved bay) plus 2 other regular windows to the front of the house.

Fortunately all the back ones were done just before we moved in.

Anyone got any idea of the costs? I'm clueless if it would be like £2k or £15k.

Any advice appreciated.

Also, make sure whoever does them gets them FENSA registered. The in laws are having a nightmare because their friend of a friend did theirs and they don’t have the paperwork now they are selling the house.

I think when we got ours done it was about £400-500 per biggish window.

Wow, was that bays? I understand they are more expensive.

No, not bays, just normal sized master bedroom windows.

I used to have a price list from the guy who did ours but it’s gone now. I think they ranged from £200-£500 depending on the size (not bay) including fitting.

From my experience of double glazing sales, it’s likely to be both of those prices. Starting at £15k then miraculously chopping £10k off the price if you’ll say yes today.

It really depends on what type of company you choose, the big nationals used to be rife with price inflation and aggressive tactics. Not sure if that’s the case any more though. A company like Everest will charge the earth whereas a local fitter will be more reasonable, just make sure you check the local firm out first for feedback etc...

Yeah, thanks.  I've already made the decision to avoid big national firms like the plague.   I know the back windows (which are really good quality) were done by a local firm because the previous owners left the paperwork, so I will be using them, plus Birmingham Windows which our builder used when we had an extension.   I don't think those windows are quite so good but I have a suspicion they will be a lot cheaper.

Somewhere in the middle - like £10k for the whole house for the materials and fitting.   It seems you're just doijng the front of the house, so maybe £5k.
