I think with Rooney a huge drop off was whenever he got his hair first done.

Do you take some sort of drugs alongside hair replacement? Always wondered if they affected his testosterone or something. Final few years at Utd he was so flat, couldn't move.

Something weird happened around the 2010 world cup. Rooney had an amazing scoring season that year, had about 30 goals by early March and was the only reason Man. United got close to winning league title as they were very average that season (b*gger also scored a very good header to beat us in the league cup final).

Then he completely flopped in that world cup. I think that was the tournament more than any where he massively disappointed as a few of the others you could say he either went in injured (2006) or the ones from 2012 he was really past his best and England were massively in transition anyway.

After that his goal record was still good and he scored some stunners like that Man. City overhead kick (and also in CL final that season) but he wasn't quite the same all round force.

Think Rooney is similar to Andy Murray in a way in perception. If you compare Murray to Federer, Nadal or Djokovic he obviously comes up short but Murray in his own right was amazing tennis player and did things no other British player has done in a long time and will be as long wait to get someone as good again.

Obviously a little difference with football given the decent number of world class players produced in last 30 years.

2010 was a weird year for strikers. Rooney and Torres both just fell off a cliff out of nowhere. Torres was injured to be fair (and somehow still secured a record move to Chelsea), but Rooney's bad world cup led into the season and he was absolutely terrible for the first half of 2010/11. Even that goal against City, he was horrendous in that game, he even admitted it in the Soccer Box with Gary Neville. Took him a while to get back up to a respectable level. Torres unfortunately never got close to his Liverpool record.

Was the same year all the shit with his wife came out, it clearly impacted him and he never really recovered his old form after.

Just looked back, league cup goal he scored v us was his 27th of the season and was only late Feb. In the March he scored 4 goals over two legs v AC Milan and also Bayern Munich he scored. By March 30th he'd scored 35 goals for club and country so Ronaldo-Messi standard that. I do remember now he got injured right at end of Bayern Munich game. He actually played the second leg but he was rushed back and then in and out for rest of the season.

Still played the England warm ups but didn't score at all and floped in a poor england team at that world cup.

It's an interesting one with strikers. Most lose that explosive nature by late 20s so have to remodel their game a bit. Raul was another who really stuggled at Real Madrid once he hit 28. Could say him, Rooney and Torres all just suffered from longevity given they were all first team regulars at 16/17 so just burnt out a bit but again Ronaldo and Messi buck that trend.

Yeah you just reminded me, it was the injury against Bayern and they rushed him back for the WC too quickly.. The CL was so entertaining in those days. Jose was shithousing his way past Barca, and the English teams were really strong at the time. Which made our chase for 4th place that much more exciting. We really fell on our sword trying to reach the promised land.

James Milner is another that broke through with Rooney at the same age (I actually think he's a couple of years older) and is still going strong at the very top level. Rooney just didn't take care of himself as he should have. He was built like a shit brick house as a teen. By comparison, Ronaldo was a skinny boy and had to work at his physique and conditioning. You would think Rooney is his grandpa right now.

I think Torres was mentioned earlier and even Fabregas are similar to Rooney, came in and had lots of hype and had huge pressure on them from 16 and by the time were 30 they had been physically busted because of the club environment they came into. Messi and Ronaldo for example developed a bit later and also came into sides that were winning and the pressure wasnt on straight away and could build into the side

Interesting that Fergy said his four world class players were Ronaldo, Cantona, Giggs  and Scholes.

Cantona FFS.

Put on a ridiculous pedestal because those games weren't watched nearly as many people as these days.

As if anyone could say he was better than Rooney.

Harry Kane is actually the same though, of his 44 international goals only 4 have been against a big nation and 1 in a competitive game also Croatia.

Rooney scored 4 vs Croatia and also vs Uruguay in conpetitive games

Didn't realise Kane had already scored 44 international goals, he's only 10 off the Rooney record isn't he so when he's done he'll probably have scored 70 + for England and made it insurpassable.

Rooney was only 6 caps off being all time England record in the end aswell. Last played for England when he was 30 so that's a negative right there of not conditioning himself properly at times in his career.

I’m amazed he’s still married given how many times he’s been caught playing away.

There must be a ratio of being caught to getting away with it.

He knows she'll never leave him, so will keep doing it.

The question is why doesn’t she leave him? She’ll be left with more money than she’ll ever need so it can’t be for financial reasons.

Or she can milk him " money wise" as much as she can until the point either one of them are fed up and she will still get a huge chunk. Is a  win win for her, given how she looks she defo hit the jackpot early.

Oh and Rooney, cab see him resigning 4  or 5 games before end of season so he won't have relegation on his CV.

4 young kids. I guess she thinks they need their father at home. I quite like Colleen, she's not like the other wags, who all look the same with botox faces and fake tits.

He has treated her poorly but I guess been a multi millionaire and not needing to work does make up for it!
