Baggies step up Hughton pursuit

Hughton: Wanted by West Brom

.

£10 completely free bet

.

West Brom are set to step up their bid to make Birmingham boss Chris Hughton their new manager, according to reports.

The Baggies are poised to ask Blues for permission to speak to Hughton in the next 24 to 48 hours.

Albion have held talks with former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri and ex-Manchester United and Chelsea midfielder Ray Wilkins as they seek a replacement for new England boss Roy Hodgson.

But it is understood Hughton remains the preferred option of Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace.

Hughton has remained the overwhelming favourite with bookmakers despite Albion interviewing other candidates.

Birmingham are unlikely to make life easy for West Brom and have the option of refusing them permission to speak to Hughton, who is operating on a one-year rolling contract.

But their hand is likely to be weakened by the uncertain financial situation at the club.

Birmingham are currently operating under a transfer embargo after failing to produce their annual accounts. The club's owner, Carson Yeung, is also awaiting trial in Hong Kong on money laundering charges.

In contrast, Albion run a sound financial ship and Hughton would inherit a squad which finished 10th in the Premier League last season.

Hughton came close to taking over at the Hawthorns 15 months ago when a free agent after leaving Newcastle, before being pipped to the role by Hodgson.

Hughton replaced Alex McLeish at St Andrew's last summer and steered Birmingham to the npower Championship play-offs despite the majority of the squad from their last season in the Premier League departing the club.

Caldersood the next blose manager i predict

That's a generous compensation package, considering their current plight

Laugh at us filth boy after the season you’ve had?

Thanks for the £3million and the £3millio in compo to Mcleish.

There’s 6 million reasons for us to laught at you, never mind the crap season you’ve had in comparison to us

Firstly, I don't know where they get £6m from. I thought it was £2m in compensation.

Secondly, they gave us £3.5m for Curtis Davies, the player who scored the own-goal in the first leg of the play off against Blackpool which was eventually enough, after three hours of football, to keep the noses in the Championship for another season.

So Paul Carter, we gave you £2m for McFucktard. Then a former Villa player **** your season in the ass and you have effectively lost out on £30m minimum. Over to you.

So Carson loses his appeal to get his assets unfrozen and is back in court next week facing the prospect of having said assets repossessed.

Meanwhile in completely unrelated and in no way whatsoever linked news there is still no sign of the long long long over due club accounts.

Their manager is seemingly being lined up by a local rival, again and they are under a transfer embargo.

Just another day in the life of the circus that is Small Heath.

They can laugh at us all they want. At the end of the day, arguably our worst ever manager is one of their best. It's all funny to note that AMc bounced right back when Blues got relegated, how'd they do without him? Failed to bounce back.

Laugh your way to League 1 please.

Is it a legal requirement to reveal they're accounts?

Given their transfer embargo and their owner being a crook who been caught out, how does their search for a new manager work? Are they allowed to employ new staff under these circumstances, or would they be forced to recruit from within?

I reckon Marlon King would make an excellent manager...

With so many promising jobs becoming available above the level that the blose are at, i really don't see how he'll stay. At least 6 Prem teams have/are changeing manager. that will have a knock on effect throughout the leagues.

Meanwhile...

BIHL have announced that the interim accounts for the period ending December 2011 will be delayed until August 31.

It’s worth noting that these are not the accounts that the Football League are waiting for prior to the embargo being lifted, and that this statement is a pro forma one as they were previously delayed until today and the interim accounts cannot be released before the overdue June 2011 accounts.

Well news starting to emerge from China on the latest of our old friend Carson Yeung's court dates. Reports are starting to circulate that he has lost his court battle with Wing Hang Bank over his house in a mortgage dispute.

He is reported to have been given 56 days to vacate the property and to pay the outstanding £4.1m in interest.

Just for clarity this case is entirely different to the current and ongoing case against him for money laundering.
