If they didn't follow self-isolation rules then it's their fault, so we either play it or we get the 3 points. We're already a game behind, being 2 games behind in the compact season we have would be a joke. There's already a precedent of teams (albeit not in the premier league) being forced to play games with severe covid outbreaks. Shakhtar had 10 players out when they played Real in the CL. And Grenada had to play a game the other week without their 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th choice keepers. John Posted December 1, 2020 Share Posted December 1, 2020 From The Times today: It was thought that clubs could ask for fixtures to be postponed if their first-team squad was reduced to 14 players as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak but the Premier League has not confirmed a definitive number and will review each case individually. Any club would have to appeal to the Premier League board to have a fixture postponed. For their case to be heard successfully, they would have to show that a particular position had been adversely affected. Matches in the Football League have been postponed, not cancelled, in the event of outbreaks. That is the precedent that they will be trying to use, I can see them getting what they want from the PL! mikeyjavfc Posted December 1, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted December 1, 2020 The issue for the premier league is that if they delay this match then there is no guarantee that things will be any better for Newcastle next weekend (and may be worse) and then they will need to make another decision about another postponement.
