Surely one of the worst decisions against Villa since Palace away last season.

A definite pen, there was contact.

Trezeguet should also have scored a couple of times.

Many players looking tired and a dodgy result was always on the cards but we still should have got something from the game.

No real standout performances apart from Trezeguet but he missed chances so my MOTM was El Ghazi just for the hell of it.

It was always 50/50 - thats the fundamental problem with VAR - a TV screen and slow mo and multiple angles very often doesn't leave you any the wiser

You can argue its a 50/50 before he blows for it but its supposed to be a clear obvious error to over rule.

Had a feeling we wouldn't get a result when I saw traore was playing.

Apparently he is rapid and works hard for the team ?

Seems smith had enough of his rapid pace and team work and took him off ?

Played ok, broke down several times due to slow movement or no movement from traore and that pushed watkins out of position.

Should not be a starter or 5 minute sub at this stage looks unfit and needs to step up 1 or 2 levels before being considered for anything more than 10 to 15 minutes at the end of the game.

Would have preferred the energy of Jordan Ramsey would would have kept pressing and stuck his foot in.

3 points dropped today by poor substitute.

We'd have missed the penalty with how that game went for us. It was one of those.

Looked great going forward without taking our chances but unfortunately defending was a bit of a shambles today. Like I said earlier in the match thread, today very much made it clear to me how our season will go. Some big wins and some big defeats, we should be more than fine for mid table and that's absolutely fine for me. Any idea of Europe is quite frankly mental.

The ball hit his foot as he tripped Trezeguet. It's as blatant a penalty you will ever, ever see. Touching the ball has nothing to do with it being a foul. You watched football before?

Never blatant - sure some days those will get given.

He was kicked on the shin, clear as day, doesn't matter if the defender gets a touch first, he's prevent the attacking player from progressing. It's a foul every where on the pitch. To overturn it is a special act of cowardice.

It was a shite decision and the wrong one, but cowardice? You could actually argue it was a brave call, he overturned his own decision which rarely happens and he did it against the home team.

I'm absolutely livid either way. Terrible decision and the full added time wasn't played.

Exactly this. A sub that backfired IMO.

Desperately needed Barkley to run the game today, knew most would be knackered after the internationals, an it really showed. Back to where we belong. What? you thought we would get a top half finish this season??

We're still in the top half?

OK, so he got a fraction of the ball, but his follow through took Trez down.  If his follow through hadn't taken Trez down he would have still managed to get hold of the ball as it landed right in front of where he would have been running but for the contact.

It's doesn't seem quite fair that you can get a sliver of the ball yet wipe a player out.  Pretty sure that would be a free kick anywhere else on the pitch.

As for us, too many poor performances all over the pitch. Not sure if it was tiredness or just bad games.  Still should have got something out of it.

Need to find a dead ball taker somewhere because 15 odd corners and 20 odd free kicks and 80% of them were utter pants.

And the lack of anyone gambling on the far post on both sides time after time is criminal. Not sure why because Trez normally does that all night long but wasn't to be seen tonight.

Robbed

Anyway otherwise, defence was poor, Brighton were getting in too easy.

McGinn was better second half but poor first half.

Jack was quiet today

Watkins wasn’t really supplied anything.

Trez played really well except he couldn’t hit a barn yard door today which ultimately lost us the game.  Would’ve preferred he played slightly worse but scored but he did play well.

Traore was better than I thought he’d be. He’ll be ok once he has more game time.

Entertaining game, we were robbed but we have ourselves to blame by not taking some chances and that’s with Jack having a quiet game for him.  Hope Ross’ injury isn’t too bad.

Robbed not to get that penalty

Hah! Only you and Michael Oliver think that’s the rules.

And Andy Townsend, and Owen Hargreaves.

Look, Im pissed we lost just as much as the next man, but he got the ball and trez was falling over before the guy even touched him.

he should’ve stayed up and **** scored.

So, Yh, not a penalty.
