Excellent result.

Very encouraging performance.

Not the free flowing poetry that the Liverpool performance was. This was about organisation, discipline, and persistence. These are the kind of performances that make decent seasons into very good ones.

If we can mix these performances with the one against Liverpool we can put ourselves in the champions league picture.

60 to 70 percent of the time these matches are draws. Having a few players capable of special moments is what turns these games into victories. Having organisation and endeavour is what prevents defeat in such games. We only have a couple of special players right now (maybe a couple more will step up) but that's one more than last season. We also have the hard work and organisation to provide a foundation.

Trezguet epitomised the hard work and endeavour from the team today and is one of 3 players that stood out today. 8

Barkley for me was having a poorish game. Not winning enough duels and second balls, holding onto the ball too long sometimes and not really doing anything to hurt the opposition. That was until he scored a goal that deserved to win the match with a precision long range strike. 8

Jack was the danger man as usual, did overplay the ball quite a bit tonight, but was once again our main threat. 8

Special mention for John Mcginn who didn't look quite as swashbuckling as usual but just seemed to be in the right place at the right time more often than not. This is a fantastic effort for a man that has played four 90 minutes in 2 weeks. 7.5

Everyone else were solid 6.5's out of ten.

Leicester look a good side with surprisingly good squad depth. They will do well again this season. Young Fofana was impressive, athletic, good technique and excellent reading of the game. Looks a top centre half in the making. Harvey Barnes' relentless running was a constant menace so Cash did well stick with him.

Was a little worried when Maddison got a free kick in a good position shortly after coming on. Last season we probably would have conceded there such was our luck. Seems luck is on our side, the lads are confident, and we are playing with grit, organisation, hard work, intelligence and plenty of threat. It's a good time to be a Villa fan. Feels like this is the start of something special.

Leeds should be worried about us.

Exactly.

Leeds look like a proper team, in terms of how they play. But for me they lack a little bit of quality to be a top half of the table team.

We will have  to  be focused and show the same kind of application we did today. If so we have the quality to beat them quite convincingly.

Wow, this is beyond my wildest dreams!

4 matches in and we already have one third of the points we amassed for the whole of last season, not to mention the best goal difference in the PL by a mile.

I didn’t think we were as bad as some people seemed to during the match. We battled hard and kept their forwards under control and the last 10 minutes or so we really put the pressure on and the goal came as no surprise.

Great goal from Barkley though. He has the ability to turn games and this is one of the key things we were lacking last season. He gets my MOTM even though he was kept relatively quiet for most of the 90.

Who thinks we were bad? Leicester were good the first ten minutes- apart from that we were better.

Today's game reminded me of a game Manure and Arsenal played which ended 1-1 think it was in 1998/99. (?) It was high quality in terms of the football played and also the tactics and defensive abilities of both teams. Excellent game.

6.5 is incredibly harsh on the rest of the team. Especially so Martinez, Konsa, Trezeguet who were all as good and as key to the win as the 3 you mention. McGinn an 8 or more too

I'm worrying about Leed's😬

Liverpool gave us too little respect and were punished for it. Leicester set up to nullify us and did so very well, they were disciplined and organised.

Leeds will come at us with everything they have, including the kitchen sink, some pipework and some of the worktop. This will leave lots of space for our midfield to take advantage of. I don't think they will be able to overcome our defenders - plus they are still bedding in the new players 🙂 Villa win......

Our best league start for 90 years, a clean sheet, unbeaten in 8, the only team with a 100% league record, second with a game in hand and a positive goal difference of 10! What's not to like?

Having done Leicester, we're now on our way to doing a Leicester....

Scoring a goal is brilliant but doesn’t make you man of the match, Trez worked himself silly for all the time he was on the pitch and make a huge number of significant contributions, yes Barkley won the game but man of the match needs more.

Trez for me as well, work rate was phenomenal.
