Martinez - it's so, so good to have a quality keeper. Good saves, decent distribution, and most importantly, knows how to catch the ball. Had a single shaky moment with a short pass to Mings that invited pressure but every keeper does.

Cash - fantastic. He's clearly a great RB in the making. Work rate, defensively strong. Great.

Konsa - very good. 2 went in but the against one of the best teams ever.

Mings - gave me palpitations with a few runs into their half but otherwise as Konsa really. Solid.

Targett - was always going to have a hard night but did well overall.

Luiz - he's just brilliant. Defensively dominant and so good on the ball. He's one of the best players in the league currently.

McGinn - the terrier of the team. He harries hassles and tidies up from whistle to whistle. And that eye for a volley is back. Great.

Barkley - great debut. Played like he had a point to make. His ability to carry the ball is something we needed to take some burden off Grealish and he's obviously got great talent. Really could have had a hattrick and should have had at least 2. But it'll come. And he's got a lovely delivery on him - the ball that lead to Watkins third was perfect.

Trez - for all his faults, the man works hard and that work rate is vital to us right now. He's not the most talented, he knows he's not, but he's like another terrier in the side, he's not going to stop until he's run into the ground. And he's got that knack of being in the right place, Watkins third came from wonderful cross he made.

Grealish - what can you say? 2 goals. Involved in everything. Less of a focus on him being fouled, more on him dictating and making a game. Superb.

Watkins - a perfect hattrick against the champions in his third game in the top flight. And all proper striker goals. And he was vital in the rest of his play too. Could have had 5. He's a player.

Nakamba - usual hustle and even got one on target.

Elmo - not massively involved but didn't do much wrong at all - he's an old head he knew what to do at that point - close the game out.

Traore - on late, game had gone and even then he had a couple of half chances. Looks rusty somehow still but probably just needs to bed in.

This was probably the best Villa game I've ever seen. We blew Liverpool away. Double figures wouldn't have flattered us. They were bad but we put them to the sword.

Superb.

If I have to nitpick, would say Cash looked a little suspect, especially defensively. But 10/10 to all the lads and especially to Smith for getting the set-up spot on.

I honestly thought he was superb!

Targett was brilliant today too. Yes Salah scored but more often than not Targett was aggressive in defence. Barkley gave us that power from midfield. Luiz and Mcginn let them have the ball and dominated the play when they wanted. Sensational sensational performance. 

I genuinely think 10+ wouldn't have flattered us. We keep our players fit and add one or two more we are going to tank a few teams this season.

Historic result. Some good fortune, but we created our good fortune. Thoroughly deserved result. Could have been 10-2, maybe should have been.

We were smarter than them and more focused. We now have an assembly of players who can put 7 goals past champions. This is going to be a very fun season. Shame there are no fans to witness it all in person.

MOTM to Watkins. Special mention to McGinn, Cash and Grealish. Barkley is a terror when he runs at people. 

Surprised to see Trez start in front of Traore, but he played well. 

One or two more big signings and.....

i would say you were using your imagination, not nitpicking.  He was fantastic!  I truly don't think he put a foot wrong.  Trez left him with too much to handle sometimes..... but he snuffed that our too.  They had ZERO effective attacks from our Right side.
