I don't consider getting shitfaced, refusing payment, being escorted by the police to be professional behaviour for someone in what you can call a public profession. We've just gotten Grealish sorted out. We don't need another overpaid party billy grabbing the headlines. So I think that's a pretty legit comparison to Drinkwater. But those of you who think that's good behaviour that's your prerogative. Sigh. Nobody has said it’s good behaviour have they. They just don’t agree with you that the examples of Drinkwater and Barkley are the same, probably for similar reasons to I’ve just pointed out. So please don’t put words in people’s mouths that they aren’t saying.

ChinlessWonder
He's not the level of Drinkwater obviously but i'm not sure he's a model proffesional. I'd sooner play McGinn personally, but if we were to offload 2 out of Lansbury, Hourahane and Nakamba and get him on a permanent deal i wouldn't complain. Otherwise really not arsed, concentrate on a left winger.

Sulberto21
To be fair Barkley is a Scouser so an all night bender for them is probably a tea party for all else. A loan to buy is a decent deal and he'll help raise the overall quality of the team and squad. The more weapons we have the more deadly our deadliest weapon will be. I was told by someone at the start of the month this was happening, not the person I usually hear things from and so had no idea if good info or not, there is so much BS about. Over the last few weeks they’ve been saying “just wait and see” and now Percy is reporting it which is about as reliable as it gets. I contacted the person last night to say well done on the info and they said loan with option and part funded wages. So I don’t know it for certain but given this persons track record on this one I’m inclined to believe them. That is as much as I “know” but we shall see I guess. Personally I’d be very pleased with it. Thanks a lot for that, regardless if the deal will come off in the end or not, I'm very glad you shared this, really interesting and valuable. It sounds hopefull! Barkley is imo exactly what we need in the middle, would fit perfectly in our mid three. Getting a player of his calibre in would be a bit of a game changer for us imo. Vive_La_Villa
I didn’t know about Barkleys misdemeanours to be honest. It’s probably because as far as I’m aware it’s never affected his game.

As long as it doesn't affect his attitude in training and his game I wouldn't worry too much about a 25-year olds couple of drunk nights out on his holidays.
Kiwivillan
If Barkley hasn't done hippy crack and crashed his Range Rover drunk during Covid lockdown I'm not interested. Obviously a bad sort

I think if we are going to turn down any footballer who had made any indiscretion at all you aren't going to have many players. James Milner maybe? Players, like Jack are thrust on the public stage at a very young age and they make mistakes. We live in a world where everything is recorded and tweeted and everything else so every mistake is caught. Back 20-30 years ago the players who were worshipped were often alcoholics and worse. Mic09
If he joins Aston Villa and has a hooker crack party outside our penalty box on Saturday at 3.27pm I will be the first to complain. Otherwise, let him play some football before we write him off.

I just can’t believe people can’t see where he improves the team. If we sign him and another winger, we could see a midfield three of Luiz, Barkley and Jack. The interchanging passes would be brilliant between them. If we only signed Barkley, we’d have McGinn Luiz and Barkley, which again would compliment each other in different ways. Either way, Barkley Would be a huge improvement on Hourihane But if we only signed a left winger then that would leave Luiz, SJM and Jack as the midfield trio. Rather have Rashica and/or Benrhama at LW and Jack in the middle than Barkley playing at 10 behind Jack.
