I do understand it and I suppose I would probably do the same thing if it were me. But didn't the same thing happen early on in the season, where we allowed him to prioritise country over club? I'm irritated by this. A player's priority should lie, first and foremost, with the club that's paying his wages. Maybe that's just me having very weak patriotic inclinations, but I feel it should go without saying.
