Yeah but Salah and Cavani are starters, top class players.

My point is if you’re signing someone as a *squad* player, and you *know* he isn’t as good as your first choice striker (he clearly isn’t) then why would you go with a 29 year old who isn’t that good, and whose resale value will be tumbling? I just don’t really see the logic.

The youth are coming through now, and while they may not be quite ready, it’s only really next season before players like Barry, Chukwuemeka, etc are going to be pushing for starts. I know we’re all stung by the Moores and the Delfounesos, but this is a much higher calibre of youth prospect coming through at Villa atm.

Anyway the youth point is a bit of a distraction. I’ve no issue with us signing another striker, just not convinced it makes any sense for that signing to be Josh King. I’d rather look at a loan deal or someone who can battle Watkins for first choice.

Where is @sir_gary_cahill? He would be loving this!!

Apparently he was on 45k a week at Everton according to sportrac. Which is the same amount Keinan Davis is on right for comparison(also according sportrac).

Geez, I'm surprised Davis got that large a  salary.

Shocked What Is It GIF

Doubt he will come, doesnt make sense.

He wants to play for our national team, our manager said he has to play regulary to be in the squad and lineup. In his competition with Haaland, Elyounussi, Thorsvedt and Sørloth he needs to be performing week in and week out to even be close to a place in the starting eleven. He will not get that here.

Has to be a spinoff from last year and the rumors then, he does not fit our profile, and we do not fit his need.

Even on a free I don’t get this. It just doesn’t fit, I am not having it.

This, I would be extremely confused if we signed JK. It doesn't make any sense on many levels.

Thanks, I still come on every day and browse the site, my Dad said to stop posting, it is wise to obey him I think

That’s a shame SGC as to me you’re a valued contributor, who’s passion for our youth set up has been missed, especially now our youth set up is firing and heading in the right direction.

Keep yourself happy and well!

I don't see this happening immediately. I think the club will closely assess Wesley after a full pre season under his belt and will only look at back up striker options if he doesn't meet the fitness requirements.

King didn't do much in an.Everton team with Richarlison and Rodriguez creating chances...

It’s one of the great ironies of VillaTalk that SGC stopped posting when we finally sorted out our youth setup and started bringing in some of the best youth prospects in the country, culminating in winning the FA Youth Cup.

He’d be getting a lot more of his predictions right if he’d started now!

How much do you reckon King would cost? I have no idea!!

Do you think his club would make us pay around 15 or 20 million? He wouldn't be a free transfer now would he and even if he were I'm not sure he fits the mould any longer.

Survival season I reckon King would of fit the mould, but this season I do not one bit, we were desperate in survival season  and this season gone plans went further ahead than expexted

I would prefer to add abit more on what we would pay for King anyhow and bring someone much more capable in that can provide real competitive football to Watkins. The one thing I do become scared with Watkins over, is that if we go buy a striker who we can just say "yeah he will do the job" who offers very little towards the development of Watkins in anyway or vica versa, we then may get Watkins who enters a state of relaxation. We all know what happens with a relaxed striker, we went though it many a time before and it's not nice. So just for the sake of keeping Watkins watching his backside and keeping him on his edge, we simply have to go and buy someone who is just as good as Watkins. Also I just don't get this whole idea of bringing in players who are below the standard of what our current squad players are, in reality it's a silly move for where were wanting to reach. Bringing below your current players level is like saying your happy with staying put as a mid table team. You don't see the so called big six trying to buy worse than what they already have, no you dont. They go out and improve there squad and if someone should end up as a bench or fringe squad player because of it then so be it as long as it keep your squad ticking.
