U23 Development League 2020/2021

Unfortunately despite how good we were against Wolves, who are perhaps a better team than Fulham, this result doesn't really surprise me, as we're so up and down, and we're always susceptible to conceding goals.

Not really sure why they don't just use Appiah, he's captain of the U18s who are very good defensively, the best in their league, he'll be too old for that level next season anyway, so would have thought now would have been a good time to start giving him more game time at this level in preperation for next season.

Hopefully this makes us more determined in the FA Youth Cup in the week, will be interesting to see what the line-up is considering the U23s then play Leeds a couple of days later, can't take Burton too lighty as they've already knocked out two  premier league sides, but there might be a temptation to rest one or two players.

Front page stats updated with Fulham defeat. Barry moves on to 12 goals and Philogene-Bidace gets his 3rd assist of the season before Fulham moved into top gear.  A relatively template first 11 for us other than Harrison Sohna coming in for only his 5th start of the campaign. Our 6th youngest starting 11 of the season at 18.39y/o (youngest was 18.11y/o).

In the other game, Boro won 4-2 at Reading to overtake both of us and move into 5th place.

Back to Bodymoor next Friday for a 7pm kickoff against Leeds United.

8 teams in action today. Pick of the bunch is 4th placed Palace home to 2nd placed Stoke. With the way the league is at the moment, pretty much every one of those games has a bearing on our prospects.

12:00 Wolves(6) v  Newcastle(12)
13:00 Sunderland(9) v  West Brom(13)
13:00 Crystal Palace(4) v  Stoke City(2)
14:00 Burnley(3) v  Norwich City(11)

Baggies won 3-2 at Sunderland and Palace drew 2-2 with Stoke.  Burnley have dropped from 3rd to 5th after those matches and are currently 2-0 down at home to 11th placed Norwich.

Burnley rescued a 2-2 draw with their final home game of the season. Even though they're 3rd, they've played 2 games more than most sides below them and you'd imagine they'll need something from trips to Leeds and Reading if they're to secure a playoff place.

12:00 Wolves(6 3) 4-0  Newcastle(12)
13:00 Sunderland(9) 2-3  West Brom(13)
13:00 Crystal Palace(4) 2-2  Stoke City(2)
14:00 Burnley(3 4) 2-2  Norwich City(11)

Will be tough on ours playing on both Wednesday and Friday.

I wonder if we'll be missing some of the younger lads on Friday because of the Cup game?

You would imagine so. Maybe we'll do a Leeds, given that we're playing against Leeds, and use the fringe seniors. That would be amusing.

Given that today's line-up was basically the U23 team wouldn't be surprised to see a few first teamers play against Leeds and maybe the likes of Brunt and Walker get a game as well.
