U23 Development League 2020/2021

Interesting to see the Leeds youth playing just like the senior team, 92 minutes gone and 5 of them are bursting forward with 2 of our players back defending, and the rest of our team snailing it back.

Haven't looked at those comments, but they probably don't realize that it was basically our reserve U23 team playing, of the starting eleven only Philogene-Bidace, Wright and Revan normally start, and Wright was playing out position today, as were a number of the others, we didn't even have a striker available. Wasn't a great performance, but given the way the Leeds goals came about we were unlucky to lose.

Philogene-Bidace was far and away our best player, his first full season with the U23s but already looking he's finding this level too easy. Thought Ted Rowe looked decent when he came on as well.

Stats updated. It won't surprise you to learn that a defence consisting of Heaton, Hause & Guilbert was our oldest team of the season (21.65 y/o).  There was one new (actual young) name in the matchday squad, in 16 year old Frankie Ealing who came on for Harrison Sohna in the 78th minute.

The win puts Leeds top as Boro fell to Fulham who continue their upturn in form. They now sit 4th. The only other match saw Newcastle win 3-2 home to Stoke.

There are 3 games today
West Brom(5th)  v Wolves(6th)
Sunderland(12th) v Norwich(3rd)
Burnley(13th)    v Reading(10th)

Villa drop to 9th and are now only 1 point off the bottom in this topsy-turvy league.  The weird form continued yesterday as both bottom sides won 3-1 at home to climb to 6th & 8th. Wolves climb into 3rd with a win at the Baggies. Next up we play 2nd placed Middlesbrough who are only 1 win above us.

After Friday U23s don't play again until January 15th, so that will probably into their thinking with regards to selection, if we've got loan moves lined up for any of them then might be their last game with us for the season.

U18s don't play until January 9th either, so wouldn't be surprised to see Bradley Young make the bench as there hasn't been many attacking options beyond the first eleven in recent games.

Any coverage of today's game?

(I realise we're at home so it's probably wishful thinking)

Lunchtime on the final Friday before Christmas, we'll be lucky if we get a tweet.

EDIT: My bad, we actually have a teamsheet:
