Also, we sounded him out in January but Bremen had no intention of selling. I'm sure we'd have done our due diligence and found out if he was interested at all back then. So for me, I do think we've always been at least a possibility to him.

I agree he didn't rule it out and must have considered it, but clearly he wants to stay in Germany.

It seems that may be probable, yes. I still wouldn't turn him down now on principle because he would genuinely improve us. My second favourite alternative all along was him staying at Werder as I want them to do well and enjoy watching him in their team.

I wouldn't turn him down on principle, I'd turn him down because we don't need someone coming in who might not be 100%. Especially someone, who will be coming in expecting to play. 

Move on for me.
