We got the points and that's what matters, but I'm still surprised Ings went off to leave Watkins on. Not sure he touched the ball again after that? He's a good player, and he'll be back to top form before too long I hope, but yes, we have too much talent in the rinal third to carry passengers. ‘Passenger’ is an interesting word. He was bombing back 70 yards in the 94th minute to stop attacks overtaking half the players on the pitch. Which is why he stayed on and Ings went off. The goals will come.
VillaChris
Couldn't believe how lazy he was with the offside trap today, 2-3 good moves broke down with him not getting back second half. Should've buried the first half chance aswell.
villalad21
He isn't a natural finisher by any means but to call him a poor finisher is incredibly harsh.
Thug
I’ve always thought his actual finishing is below average. However, his energy and work rate are so important to the way we play. It’s no coincidence we’ve gone from being dogshit against Watford and average against Brentford, to being the better team against Chelsea, Everton and Man Utd since he returned. It was absolutely the right decision to leave him on and take Ings off because of his energy.
sharkyvilla
I'm no body language expert but I said in the match thread that after he missed from that gift from De Gea his face looked like a man who has just had a kid and barely slept. The athletic side is still there but just mentally not quite 100%. Could be complete bollocks.
PussEKatt
I dont think he and Ings play well together at all.I think both of them did better as a lone striker, for us anyway.
Villa87
I think he didn’t overly celebrate after the goal because he was worried he was offside - he looked over at the linesman.

PussEKatt
I hope it comes because they are both very good strikers and we need at least one of them to come good.

He was miles offside and didnt want to draw attention to himself. Smart play.
useless
I thought he played well yesterday, I think maybe people focusing on the fact that he didn't score and the good chance that he missed, but overall it was a good performance, and no surprise that we've started playing better since he came back into the team.
Digavilla
Just feel that it’s first time in his Villa’s days can his main striker role is threatened after Ings arrived & he’s pressured to score to keep his place .. yesterday there’s chance to lay off a good pass to better place team mate , but he choose to shoot, to keep with Ings 2 goals.. icouldtelltheworld
Not worried about him at all, was still pressing the United defence into injury time yesterday and have no doubt that him and Ings will click soon enough and become a deadly partnership

It’s interesting cause despite them not clicking we’ve played really well as a team using a formation that gets them both in the team. I think we’re at a stage where, even if Ings and Watkins aren’t clicking, they’re causing so many problems for opposition defences with their mere presence that it’s creating chances for the 4 players behind them (Targett, Cash, Ramsey, McGinn) all of whom have had much more attacking threat in the past few games. Very exciting to think how we might improve further when the Watkins/Ings combo starts to sync which it surely will in time and with Danks on board
nepal_villan
Recently top sides have shown you dont need a prolific goal scorer and can do it by committee, so I am not too concerned about how many goals our strikers get, however the number of chances Watkins has missed is poor and needs improvement.
Laughable Chimp
Interesting problem we have. Watkins gets good chances but isn't a good finisher. Ings is a great finisher but doesn't get lots of good chances.
Adman
I'm to blame for his lack of goals, I backed him for pl top scorer at 33-1. Soz
Vive_La_Villa
His finishing and last line running hasn’t been great. But his general team player has been good as always. Leads the press.
cheltenham_villa
Started the season slow last year then bagged a first half hat trick against Liverpool. His performances are very good, not taken his chances but I think we all know he will.
