Thought Wolves got £13 million for Doherty, where is the additional £18 million coming from?

Helder Costa I'd guess. But because he was already in loan at Leeds then the poster didn't include him in the post. Doherty went for £15m

Wolves actually ended up receiving £20m for Costa and another £20m for Cavaleiro, the original feels were around £15m each but after both Leeds and Fulham were promoted, Wolves recieved an extra £10m from the two deals because of a clause in the loan agreements.

So when you look at it like that, for them to receive £55m for Cavaleiro, Costa, and Doherty is pretty good business, because the first two are worth nowhere near £20m each, both Trezeguet and El Ghazi did better than them at Premier level.

Everton signing Allan from Napoli (29) and more talk of James Rodriguez (29). Damn. Everton's squad must have a pretty high average age.

Astronomical wages too with those two coming in.

I wanted to throw a question out there , what teams do you think will finish below Villa this season? Or putting it another who should we finish higher than?

My views

Brighton, punching above their weight

Crystal Palace, the wheels have been coming off for a couple of seasons now

Fulham, just not quite good enough

W B A, I could be just putting them in there because of local rivalry, they might surprise a few, (hope not though)

West Ham, I just dont like them nicking our kit colours

Southampton, Unless Ings is on fire again they will struggle

That would put us 14th which I believe would be fair/good (but not great) progress

I thought it would not only be interesting to see what people came up before the season starts,  but  who came closest to getting it right by the end of the season.

Not sure I would include Palace in there - they seem to be in very good shape. Agreed Sheff United could have a very hard second season.

Who else have they signed other than Eze? They had a shocking run post lockdown although thankfully they won v Bournemouth in their first game back.

They're one of those who really need a good start which they got last season when they took 7 points from their first 4 games. We took 9 games to get past 7 points. Think if they start poorly Woy will be mutually consented and then they'll probably go for Eddie Howe.

Southampton will finish top half imo if they avoid serious injuries, really impressed with how they were playing end of last season.

Don't see why we can't target finishing above Palace, Newcastle, Burnley and Sheffield united who will likely be back in bottom half. The third relegated team could easily come from one of those four if we take it Fulham and West Brom are going straight back down. We do need a good start though otherwise DS will come under major pressure.

14th would be OK but many teams around us and above can easily be overtaken if we throw some serious money around.

Man. City a few years ago had to spend over £200 million in one transfer window and Chelsea are replicating that this year. Now I'm not expecting us to do that but we'll never get closer if we don't. Problem is I think players outside of England have a pretty bad opinion of us and hence I think we are struggling to attract the next level of player which is why we look like going back to Brentford. I'm worried to be honest...

It's a forum after all it's how I feel and of course hope I'm wrong that we can attract the Milot Rashica calibre of players.

40+ points for me to show we are moving forward.

This is it. We cant help form of other sides, so position is out of our hands.

Improved points score is what we should be aiming for.

40-45 points will be good.

I expect a big improvement across the board, but not sure we will bring in the right players in forward areas to impact the team straight away. Fingers crossed I'm wrong. However, I would say that a 10 point improvement on last year should be the minimum aim for this season.

At the end of the day 40 points is a win and two draws more than what we achieved last season, if we recruit well surely that is attainable!
