cb_82 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 One thing you have to say is that if Watford lose to Man city by 2 or 3 what a motivation for Villa to know if they can beat Arsenal there is a chance they could be out of the relegation zone on Tuesday night on goals scored - That's huge going into the last weekend especially 1

Areteta will most likely rest a few players given the short turn around. But they have a very decent squad so replacements won't be poor. I think we can get a draw and hope Watford lose 3-4 goals on their GD. Go into the last game knowing a win will keep us up. 2

villalad21 Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 I think there is a bigger chance in them resting players against Watford. Only days before the Cup Final. 1

Thats my line of thinking, managers look at the stats alot and they will have players approaching that ''red'' zone so will they rest a few Tuesday and then use Watford to prepare
Popular Post John Posted July 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 20, 2020 Games don't get much bigger than this one. There are “must win” games, but this is a “must at least match, Watford’s earlier result” game! They kick off against Manchester City at six tomorrow. Should they beat the league runners-up, as they have already beaten the league champions, then anything less than a win against cup-finalist’s Arsenal, would see us relegated. Both Manchester City and Villa, cannot allow that to happen! We need to finish above two teams to pull off our great escape. We are already above Bournemouth, on goals scored and with a game in hand. We need to make sure that in our final two games of the season, we do no worse than Bournemouth do, in their last game at Everton. We need to at least get the same number of points and to maintain the parity in our goal differences, to stay above them. We also need to get three more points from our last two games, than Watford do from their two, and to see them lose their present 4-goal advantage over us. That would leave our goal difference, at least the same as their one and we would then finish above them, on goals scored. We have currently scored 5 more goals than Watford and 2 more than Bournemouth. Arsenal will arrive at Villa Park, having won an FA Cup semi-final at the weekend and that competition, now seems their most likely route to a European place, with them currently standing 10th in the league table. A Villa win would at the very worst take our relegation battle to the final day, but it might just draw us level with Watford on points, by tomorrow night. Arsenal will prove a very tough nut to crack. I would love it, if they rested players and took their foot off the gas, for this one game, but also heavily outgunned Watford on the last day. I suspect however, that they will not be looking to do us any favours on Tuesday night and that we will need to fight like lions, to get something out of this game. A draw would see us definitely needing to win on the last day at West Ham, so let us win this one now! We last beat our visitors at Villa Park in 1998, overturning a 2-0 half time deficit, to win 3-2 with our second half goals coming from, Julian Joachim and Dion Dublin (2). That tremendous win, took us back to the top of the league table for Christmas, heady days indeed! Arsenal have been undefeated in their subsequent league visits to Villa Park, having won 10 (including the last 3) and drawn the other 7. Overall, we have won 61 and have drawn 39 of the 175 league games, that there have been between the two clubs. This will be our penultimate cup final this season and we certainly owe them one, from the last cup final that we played against them! They had the rub of the green to take all three points against us ten months ago. Let us take our unbeaten run to three tomorrow and get a second successive home clean sheet. Just win this one for us Villa! 9

mottaloo Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Sorry to wee on everyone's chips here but i just don't see us getting a result tomorrow night. Don't get me wrong, I'd be bouncing around and have every confidence for the west aaam game should we nick it but we're powder puff in attack and dont take the chances even when they do present themselves. Our forwards are pants. I think arsenal will just put us out of our misery. We've been given plenty of opportunities thanks to other teams messing up and we've not taken advantage. I have to say I've not enjoyed being back at the top table this season at all and i wonder if even 3 seasons away from it is too long ? I'm off to play my Morrissey records to cheer myself up 1

It's Your Round Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Yeah in all likelihood Arsenal will win this. They should be too strong for us, Aubameyang, Pepe and Lacazette should have our defence for toast and with our lack of goals and pace up front, we’re not best placed to counter them. However, football’s a funny old game, a game of two halves, and one that continually throws up surprises. So maybe, just maybe that will happen tomorrow. People say it’s the hope that kills you, I say it’s the hope that keeps you interested. Where’s the fun in this game if we just expect the worst. Up until we have that big R next to our name, I’ll still hope we can do the impossible. 4

Whilst I agree on this for everyone else, it only seems to be us who never throw in the surprise result. We just seem to be incapable of getting a result against the top teams especially when the chips are down. It's time for us to turn the tide on this and finally get a result, even a completely undeserved one where our only shot bounces in off someone's backside. I'm sick of us losing every game everyone predicts we will lose. 2
The Fun Factory Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Beating Arsenal will be more impressive than winning 10 in a row last year. 1
Popular Post Robtaylor200 Posted July 20, 2020 Popular Post Posted July 20, 2020 Being a Villa fan for a long long time I forecast We will some how beat Arsenal 1:0, we will still be dancing and whistling the tune to the Great escape as we go back to type and get beat by W ham 6
PaulC Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 Looks like Arteta will rest a number of players for this. we are playing them at a good time. I know they have beaten the two best teams in England lately but they are already in the europa league, nothing to play for.

Bournemouth draw 1-1 at Everton and we all live happily ever after. 1
