Yeah I don’t get the Nilis love i mean good player but unfortunately no fault of his own hardly played a game. I remember how sad I was though with that break and my best mate at school was obsessed with the picture of his leg bent which made me feel sick. Also don’t get the love for Wilfed Bouma, again good player but horrible injury means he never hit very high heights with us

We have had some seriously shit left backs since Bouma, Bouma was solid but compared donkeys after he looked like Maldini

He was a fantastic player, amazing even.

I watched him on Swedish Eurosport-show Eurogoals every Monday for years and years. They almost always showed extended highlights from the Anderlecht and then PSV games and even playing alongside Ronaldo and against an AJAX side who was among the best in Europe he still stood out.

He was like a mix between the best of Le Tissier and Bergkamp.

I get why he technically should not be on a Villa list because of his short stint, but this list is a favorite player (not best player) and he is one of my all time favorite players.

Additionally, and probably more importantly, there is also the fact he scored against Ireland in the both legs of the playoff for the 98 World Cup. That is reason enough not to include him.

9 year old me hated him and 11 year old me was disgusted when Villa signed him.

Friedel

Mellberg Laursen Bouma

Young Milner McGinn Grealish

Benteke Carew JPA

Subs: Bosnich, Lowton, Vlaar, Barry, Petrov, Dublin, Yorke

Gifs: Bowery

Wanted to put Kyle Walker in there but feels like that’s cheating.

This is hard. I was born in '84 but don't really remember much before the first CocaCola Cup winning season, so based on that...

----------------------Bosnich----------------------

Young----Laursen---McGrath---Wright

Milner------Barry-------Platt--------Young

--------------Carew--------Angel---------------

Could probably pick another different XI tomorrow

You wouldn’t put Grealish in?

Bosnich

Mellberg, Laursen, Vlaar

Young, Milner, Hitzlsperger, Grealish

Milosevic, Carew, Angel

Zero balance to that team but reflects which players I liked - some for more logical reasons than others! Subs would include some players who were difficult to leave out: Dublin, Petrov, Bouma, Guzan (loved the guy for while!), Ehiogu, Barry, McGinn.

I was still pretty young when we had our domestic successes in the early-to-mid 90s, so I've gone for players I've had more experience watching.

                Friedel

Wright, Mellberg, Laursen, Delaney

             Barry,   Milner,

Young                            Solano

                  Merson

                   Angel

Tactically, I've gone 4-2-2-1 (wide) but Carew would ordinarily be my other striking option.

Subs would be a hard pick. Special mentions to the likes of Ehiogu, Carbone, Hitz, Bouma, Carew.
