Summer Transfers Window 2020

James Rushton reporter for Birmingham Live doing a podcast for the brum mail talking about links to us, wolves, Monaco and Leipzig

on paper he's not wrong, we would need one hell of a sales pitch to get him to sign, but that's dependent on those other clubs actually being after him which might not be true, benefit of the doubt he might be lining it up as a big coup for us but more likely he doesn't actually know anything and is just stating his personal opinion which is then reported as news, at worst what he's hinting at is that we will throw money at him to get him to join which isn't worth bothering with because we will never know those details

If the £16m fee for Maupay last season is to be believed, Watkins valuation can only be £18m tops......not the £25m being mentioned.

I’d take Edouard all day long over Watkins. Sure he’d cost £10m more but worth it for me.

And maybe we can loan Celtic Samatta for a season to sweeten the deal.....and if Samatta finds his goalscoring form then it’d help us sell him on.

So for me it’d be:

Edouard - £28m to £30m

Raschica - £22m

Beundia / Benrahma - £18m to £20m

So let’s call that £70m, leaving £30m for a DCM, CB and full back cover.

Not a huge amount, but suppose we got Zouma on a season loan with an option to buy and so essentially deferring most of the fee (£25m) to next Summer.

That leaves £20m for a CM/DCM and at least one FB. That’s very doable, especially if we could get Rico Henry for £5m-£7m as rumoured.

Liking the sounds of this. For the CDM I'd go for Weston McKennie. Schalke want £22m for him.

McKennie, Edouard, Rashica, Buendia and full back cover would be a special window.

Zouma never really recovered from that knee injury he had at Chelsea 5 years ago or so. He has adapted and learned to play in a different way but he never lived up to the promise he showed before that injury.

Who the hell is that bloke, never seen his name connected in the press to us before.

Has Percy stirred at all this summer, interested who he thinks we're after? Can remember summer 2015 when he was calling Veretout, Adama, Ayew and Gana and they all happened the day after.

last week confirmed our interest in watkins, aside from that nowt

yeah i think percy must have an arrangement with villa for exclusives in exchange for not reporting nonsense like all the rags do. think it goes for all of the telegraph reporters like matt law too. they're all generally very reliable. shame it's such a tory paper, but that's for another thread.

Zouma just an example because he’s apparently available. But I’d rather pay £25m for someone tried and tested like Zouma , than the rumoured similar amount that Everton may pay for the Barca player Todibo.

I felt compelled to trawl a certain website that does player stats and found this name: Domenico Berardi. He's 6ft tall, player as an attacker for Sassuolo in Italy and scored 14 and had 10 assists from 29 appearances this last season. He is only 26 and according to another website that values players he has a market value of around £17m. He is left-footed but mainly plays as attacking right midfield so would replace El Ghazi.

Anybody got any knowledge of him?

Seems to be a lot of talk concerning Villa’s budget. 100m is the most commonly stated.

Villa have very wealthy owners so I’m guessing that if the right players are available and Smith wants them then more will probably be spent when you also consider that there will be players leaving Villa.

He's a well known Villa blogger - respected among his peers when he was blogging - working for the Mail won't do his rep @ny good.

Having read as many pages of this thread as my eyes can stand, , I think I can aggregate all the views as follows:

"We need about 10/11new players !!!"

Jack Butland is apparently available for £8m according to SSN. I say we flog Nyland and Kalinic and bring him in for competition for Heaton.

I’d take him, competition for places is never a bad thing but I’d dread to think what would happen to Jed Steer if we did bring Butland in

Couldn't have put it better myself. One thing I would like is ignore CDM as Luiz has proven he's a stud there and focus more on someone who can offer what Hourihane does, which is a technical set piece specialist.

I don't follow other players at other clubs.....but something in my gut likes the look of that.

I don't think Luiz is a CDM, I think we need more power and presence and Leadership qualities there .....He did a good job in lockdown granted, but not a permanent post IMO......Play him further forward for me.

You would be surprised. Like last year, our owners are committed to pumping in money with the ultimate goal of closing the gap on the top 6. The 100m, whilst is probably a rough guess from Journos, is exclusive of selling anyone. The hope/belief at this stage is we won't be selling anyone. If we were to sell Grealish for the quoted 80mill, we'd need to spend a lot more than 100m to have even a glimmer of hope of staying up. That's how important he is to us.
