It does make me wonder if we have been waiting for the Play-off final to happen before fully reviewing our targets.

Despite tonight's performances I would be very surprised if we don't at least explore options for signing Benrahma and / or Watkins.

Any team wanting to sign any of the players from either team tonight was waiting for this game to end before they tried. Whether you’re playing another season in the championship or not can make the offers from the prem sides look completely different.

If true, it's gotta be RB Leipzig right?

https://bulinews.com/news/5692/milot-rashica-has-agreement-with-a-club-wants-join-confirms-werder-boss

"Werder Bremen sporting director Frank Baumann has confirmed that Milot Rashica has agreed personal terms with an unnamed club amid ongoing speculation that the 24-year-old wants to join RB Leipzig. However, the two clubs are yet to agree a transfer fee."

Have to say, I don't get where the Benrahma hate is coming from.  He oozes class.  Great first touch, quick with the ball at his feet and does not hesitate or think about his next move, just gets it and goes... all traits needed to be a successful forward/winger in the prem in my opinion.  Easy to see why Dean has wanted him for 3 windows now.

I don't agree, we need a coherent looking team, which is pretty much the opposite.

Yup. Don't give a shit what other people think - we need to make smart signings that are based on our needs, not anything else.

players off the top of my head that will definitely be an improvement to our current options (Trez, AEG):

Buendia - RW/AM. My first choice. Pace, flair, close control all top notch. His PL stats speaks for itself. Can definitely improve on end product though. Will definitely be a star for us.

Benrahma - LW. His skills, pace and dribbling ability will scare any PL fullbacks. A player that will definitely get villa fans on their feet. You will be entertained. Could be a hit or a miss though. Dean Smith knows him well, he’d know if he got what it takes.

Harry Wilson - RW. This guys a weird one. Did very well for Lampard's Derby. Not so for Bournemouth. I think he would do well in a better team. Great left foot. Great technique from set piece and a deadball specialist. Will benefit a lot from all the free kicks Grealish wins. Long shots second to none. Only 22, which convince me he can grow into a good player of similar ilk to Snodgrass. Bench option maybe.

Januzaj - RW/AM. The wonderkid hype has died off, rightfully so, but he has grown into a player for Sociedad. Besides Oryazabal and Odegaard, hes their next best player. Very underrated. Quietly good. I think he would do well for us. Abit injury prone.

Brooks - RW/AM. Been injured this season. But was progressing very well right before the injury and definitely worth to give him a shot.

Cantwell - LW/AM. Similar style to Grealish. Which is what i like about him. Good enough option for the top 6 clubs. We should be in for him.

Viktor Tysgankov - RW. Unknown talent from Dynamo Kyiv. Haven’t seen him mentioned here before. Prolific Winger. Only 22 years old and been banging goals and assists consistently for the past 3 seasons. His stats is something like 20 goals 15 assists per season. I hope Lange is aware of this guy. Much much weaker league, so will probably be a huge risk.

Are you serious this has to be a wind up, most of your suggestions you write off yourself as risks, we are not in a position to take risks

Harry Wilson .... NOOOO thanks.

Cantwell .... Bang average since august

januzaj .... Absolutley not ... would be here for a pay day.

I really think at this point it's a bit like early June when there's an international tournament on and other players are on holiday.

I'd like to think we're targeting 2-3 players who are still involved in euro competitions so there's that to consider.

Think we'll sign one player in next 10 days but the other 5-6 will come as we return for pre season which I think is Monday 15th August. And let's not forget we can sign and sell players for the first month of the season so it's not essential to get everyone for the opening game which might not even be 12th September as think all the clubs in europe will get option to start the season a week later and we could easily get one of them on the opening day like Spurs last year.

To repeat Benrahma was poor in the final, having never watched him before I can't really be too sure about him. He gave the ball away too much tonight and seemed to run into trouble.

So Maupay was £16million, Benrahma surely can't be worth much more.

Somebody said he was definitely joining Chelsea, what to sit on their bench? Can't see him playing too much for them.

Watkins has potential but again anymore than £16million for Championship players is too much having never played in the top flight before.

Aye it’s the Sun but.. https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/12313719/aston-villa-jack-grealish-new-deal-snub-man-utd-transfer/

Quote

Billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens have no intention of losing their skipper this summer.

And tying Grealish, currently on £70,000 a week, to a lucrative new five-year contract will show they mean business.

Tyrone Mings and John McGinn will also be rewarded for impressive seasons with new deals.

Despite splashing out £140m on new players last season, Sawiris and Edens are ready to make around £100m available to add “three or four quality additions”.

Villa team seem to have a very close bond with each other.  Personality will be a big attribute when purchasing a player.

Apart from the time when Jota got headbutted in the training ground.

Still would like us to go and get Benrahma. Think in our team he would be brilliant and is exactly what we're missing. With the way other teams double up on Grealish, he will find space all over the shop.

I've only seen him tonight. - He seemed to struggle with the occasion - which can happen to any player. I am sure Dean and the scouting team will have done their homework though. Last season we did whatever it took to land Tyrone Mings - I don't  see Benramha in that category - I wouldn't go much beyond £15m myself.

Tammy should be the player we break the bank for this window - assuming he is interested.

Here’s how I see it:

We finished 17th, and barely at that, so for players being looked at by other Premier League teams or top half teams in other leagues, we’re not necessarily an attractive proposition. The lure of the Premier League is definitely an appealing factor to the foreign markets, though.

I also think that most people think Grealish will be off, and if we lose him then we lose another selling point to other potential players. We could get £60million for him, maybe even more, but it’ll be difficult to splurge that on expensive players when they’re going to be the only player of their level at the club.

If we have enquires about some big budget players, they’d probably want an assurance Grealish will stay, though you’d like to think that if we couldn’t keep him we’d at least promise we’d be spending big on another couple of top names. I think until Grealish’s future is decided one way or another, it’ll be hard to bring quality players in.

Going for ‘Premier League experience’ is good and all, but when you just finished the lowest position you can be without being relegated, why would top players from other PL teams want to come? Money? Maybe, but I think I’m right in saying our wage bill is on the lower end of the spectrum. Chances are we’d only be a lure to older players looking for a longer contract than they might get elsewhere, either that or the crapper ones which we obviously don’t want. We could target good PL players who are either on the verge of breaking into the first team or are struggling for game time, but they’d be riskier signings that might not quite come off.

I think a mix of PL experience is great, and wouldn’t be averse to maybe another older head - an experienced CB would be my choice - coming in. We’ve also got Heaton. However, PL experience will cost, and I think we need to go down the younger quality player route, especially in the foreign markets. We can offer PL football, game time, competitive wages (if not better), and a historic club with top notch stadium and training facilities. I think these are our selling points, so I really hope we’ve realised that and have targeted the best players that those things will appeal to most, though that would require a good scouting network across the globe, and I’m fairly sure we only have one scout and he lives in Belgium... we should definitely be aiming to improve our scouting.

I really hope the PL experience rumour has been exaggerated or taken out of context.
