I think he has a great future but not with us so what's the point? Would prefer to give konsa games, he won't be at the same level but at least he's ours

Rudiger is ropey imo and not a top level CL defender, squad player he's OK, if you say 4 cbs then that's Rudiger, Christensen, tomori and zouma

Ampadu has every chance of breaking in to that team

I think Rudiger is excellent, they’re well covered in central defence I think, 4 excellent you just named there I think, you might think differently.

I really like Konsa, he doesn’t complicate the game, he just does the simple thing, a really great prospect

Agree on konsa which is why I don't want us to loan someone else, its his development we should focus on

I think Rudiger and zouma are europa league level defenders, top 4 and champions league squad players so Chelsea's current level is probably right for them... But if Chelsea want to progress then they have to try and get better, I'm not 100% sure but I'd guess Frank prefers tomori over both this season which says a lot

I think our defence on paper is fine, they just need time to develop and improve.

The problem is our midfield and wide areas.

Whilst I agree if an older more experienced head was available on the right deal then I'd get him in in place of hause

Not sure who is out of a contract this summer (this year's Gary Cahill)

We are laughably bad at defending set pieces.  Dean really needs to sort it out, probably by hiring a specialist set piece coach.  Also one quality centre half to partner Mings.

You don’t think Engels is good enough?

Investing in 4 players who are marked improvements on what we have and would go straight in to the first team would ensure survival for me assuming we don't go down of course. If we go down then we'll be getting a massive cash boost unless Grealish really does want to be our Totti. In that scenario we could buy half a dozen of the best up and coming talent in europe and a few experienced heads and put the foundations down to build a prem team on when we come back up.

I thought he started well and was pretty good value considering how many players we had to sign but as romavillan says, if we do stay up then we should be looking for fewer, better quality and probably more expensive players.  There were times where Engels was pretty amateurish but he isnt alone in that and should get better but we need proper coaching changes as well.

Every player in the history of the game has made mistakes, it’s how the player bounces back from them that defines them. According to Wikipedia, he has only played 16 times for us in the league and 18 in all competitions, I think that it is too early to judge them

Engels might turn into a decent defender for us. He has shown some talent and he has had soem bad moments. IF we get the chance to stay up he'll get the chance to impress again but maybe with less pressure on him, if we sign 4 very good prem level players he will be under less pressure too, there's probably a few of our players that could turn out to be good enough long term, maybe they need to start as squad players though first. Might help them.

Ultimately the stats state now we're the worst defence in the league, worse than Norwich who were shipping goals for fun earlier this season. So unless the expectations were rock bottom at the start of the season (which they weren't) it's pretty disappointing and somewhere our structure isn't right.

We’ve spent a lot of money to assemble it though, it sounds as though you’ve pretty much written this season off VillaChris? If we do go down, we will lose a lot of players and probably the manager too. It is imperative that we stay up this season and then build from there

He looks a different player in 4 man defence rather than 3 man cb line. I think that's key for him. In a 5311 he looked like bambi.

He’s always ace in championship manager. Sadly that’s my only barometer but it’s more due diligence than we used to do under Randy!

I remember I could never figure out why teams never signed Richie Partridge around 2002.

I think if we stay up we need a right back, centre half and a left back...…… a quality midfield player and a at least one quality wide option...…….

guilbert, engels, targett, jota, trezeguet just aren't good enough as first team players - they'll be decent if we got down...…….

Urgently an energetic midfielder is needed except Nakamba and McGinn we have no energy in that position and it tells. Can see how defence crumbled since McGinns injury as they are too exposed.

Yup. And quality. Energy is nice, but I just want more PL level footballers

Who don’t you think is Premier League quality?

Out of our midfielders I'd say Hourihane, Jota, Trez, Lansbury and Drinkwater (at present ability) are not PL quality. And El Ghazi is squad player level.

Nakamba, Luiz are about lower half PL quality with potential to improve, McGinn mid table and Grealish top 6 level.
