I know a lot don't like Nixon, but he does seem to have contacts with agents. He gets a lot of Champ -> Prem stuff right, even though some pretend he gets nothing right. Fwiw I think he might have a rather good season if he stays with Atletico. They have a very interesting team and with Morata gone him and Suarez will likely play a fair bit between them.

Costa and Suarez up front together, managed by Simeone...

Tend to agree to many changes and we are back in the same predicament as last year, as good as they are rather than Sarr or Rashica I'd be happy with Josh King on the bench, saying that Traoré could go either way yet and might not end up a regular starter.........ah F*** knows I want the window done so I can stop thinking about it really doing my head in now!!

Hello all,

Long time lurker since the end of the MON era, only feeling comfortable joining the site now given what is inextricably Villa back on the rise!

This window has surpassed my personal expectations but in line with Purslow's comments of 'one side to stay up, one side for stability, one side to push on' it certainly is in line with what the ambitious owners have in store.

For me Barkley was the last piece of the puzzle in terms of our XI as we are essentially adding competition to the 8 position as well as removing the need for Grealish at 10, which personally I'm sceptical of him repeating his championship performance at that position in the prem. 

Rashica has been my number 1 target all summer, and it sounds like I'm not the only one! However now Barkley has arrived I'm starting question whether it's a good use of funds. Rashica coming in means the following;

a) Rashica LW - Grealish moved to #10 and most likely McGinn dropped for Barkley - this is unfair given we are probably only now just seeing fit McGinn back in the team

b) Rashica RW - Traore dropped, despite me preferring Rashica stylistically, Dean has gone on record saying he prefers inverted wingers and this would be taking a left footer off for a right footer, on top of this it would be unlikely we have signed to bench Traore without him having played full game in the prem yet.

I do fully agree about the comments that one injury to Grealish means we are back to El Ghazi LW which I'm desperately frightened of however I'm not sure we need to spend £20m+ for that cover. Sarr is more or less the same case but I can't see him coming to be on the bench but if we are able to get on loan initially as mooted it does it make it marginally more likely to me.

I thought Jack may have demanded more gametime at #10 with his contract renewal in order to give himself a better chance of getting into the euro's squad, as its more likely he beats out Maddison and Mount in that position rather than Sancho/Sterling, so far that's seemingly not the case but it will interesting to see if that develops into a bigger theme this season should he find himself not getting into the England team at LW.

Forward would be my top priority as well. My point was though simply we shouldn’t buy a LB to replace Taylor and push Targett, if we buy a LB it should be as I described.

Ideally yes, but it’s more important to replace Taylor than it is Targett.

No, no it isn’t. You don’t improve by improving your back up players. So no it’s more important to improve on Targett than Taylor and move the later on.

But I agree it won’t be this window.

I would say i was happy with martinez, cash, watkins and traore, but at the same time there wasn't that signing that made me feel like we really nailed it with a big "FU we are back" type cherry on the cake.

For me barkley is like the cherry on the cake tbh.

The cake was great, but barkley is like the final sweet sweet topping of intent.
