Summer Transfers Window 2020

First post so forgive if overly long...

There’s no way we are done trying to get people in.  We may be done bringing people in, without creating room for them in the squad. Our entire buying policy was built on not losing a fortune when we needed to upgrade players, so that’s what we need to do, sell players, without taking a bath on their resale value.

That being said, given the desired aims of the owners and the fact we have the opportunity to go shopping in a suppressed market.  Here’s my priority list for this summer:

1) Jack new contract

2) 2 New Strikers to replace Samatta and Davis (loan out Davis once signed new contract)

3) 2 x Creativity and pace out wide

4) New Right back, ship out Guilbert

5) New CB, preferably starter, but could be cover - Engles out

6) New CM to challenge McGinn but also cover for Jack.

Was more than happy for Steer to cover until Heaton returns, but when you have cash and an opportunity to upgrade comes along, you take it.  Also, we aren’t keeping Jack at the club without offering him the chance to play in centre mid, so wide players need to be starters.

Now, on the big assumption that Dean had a similar list, it’s telling that we spent a lot on Matty Cash, for a position so far down the priority list.  You’d assume therefore we are looking to fill those greater priorities too.

So that’s a striker, a left forward / winger, new CB and new CM still to come, once we create space in the squad.

No clue who, that depends how much the owners are willing to spend, feels like they are prepared to spend more than they budgeted, to take advantage of our Covid inflated place in the market (willing to overspend to secure targets).

Can’t see us doing anything at left back, we aren’t going to demote a left back we just spent 17m on and Taylor isn’t going anywhere, I think he has 1 year left on a tasty contract, he’ll go on a free next year.

Welcome! It’s good to see new ‘faces’. Agree on most of this, apart from the starting CB: think we’re underestimating Konsa.

We must be going for another winger considering various comments about pace. The excitement about Rashica was that he fit the bill so damn well. Exactly what we need.

I really hope we aren’t going to let go of Samatta and not have another forward ready to roll. Rhian Brewster, maybe?

Snodgrass on a free and cash in on AEG and Connor, an upgrade in ability, intelligent player, excellent character, covers both wings, excellent dead ball specialist too.

Cheap cover for one year, which gives us time to find out what this squad has got before the next big window.

I really don't want that.

Rashica and traore are coming as wide players, which leaves Grealish in the middle.

If that's our plan, we need a striker who can come in for watkins without disrupting other areas. I think that would be poor if we indeed see rashica and traore as back up strikers. I'm hoping we sign rashica and a proper striker as competition/back up to watkins.

The backup is Davis. Then it’s Traore. If Rashica came he’ll be an option. Wesley is getting back in a few months too. But who do we have as Wingers? Jack, Traore. Watkins could play there. We also have El Ghazi and Trez who I don’t think we shall look at them as a starters.
I’m very happy with our options upfront, I rate Davis. Traoré first position was a striker. We need a LW, CM and CB (backup) before thinking of a striker.

Was just about to post this. If we go into this season with Watkins, Davis and an injured Wesley as our strikers I'll be absolutely bemused. We must be confident of another striker coming in.

There's always the 10.59pm speed dial to Borja Baston on deadline day.😉

He’s a RW and not so different from Traore (apart from him being slower). We need a LW now.

Welcome 🙏🏻

2-It would be mental to get two strikers now. I don’t think we’ll be able to get the quality upgrade on Davis just for him to come and set in the bench. We’ll have to pay alot too. I might get a winger who can play as a striker but not the other way round.

3-If you’re talking about our activities so far too, then we’ve already got Traore, and we need the other.

4-Cash

5-I don’t think it’s easy to attract an upgrade to Mings or Konsa, and if so it would cost too much.

6-Agree.

Thank **** no more Rashica thread. This has to be lack of interest In the player wanting to come here over anything else. We'll pay the money, we've proved that. If he's hedging his bets and hoping for more, understandable, but **** him.

Thanks.....

Agree about Rashica, I’d be happy to be buying all our players where we are the players 3rd choice, it means we are stretching ourselves in terms of the quality of who we buy.  If we were the first choice of all our recruits, you’d question how much we’ve improved the squad.

Regarding Samatta, if he is in Turkey, you’d have to assume his replacement is close too.  With Liverpool having just signed Jota, the timing certainly matches to allow Brewster to move to us.

I know it’s not popular to say this, but if we are looking to a minimum of mid-table this year, I’d prefer Brewster and Tarkowski, than Edouard and a £20m CB.

Why? Maybe Villa think they're all capable of playing across the front?

It would seem strange, traore hasn't played as a striker for a few years and rashica only does it every so often I believe.

I just don't think it would work. For me it looks like we're buying them as wide players and I'm happy with that. I'd be very surprised if we don't sign a proper striker.

Wesley won't be back till Jan and even then we have no idea what shape he will be in.

If end the window with watkins and Davis as our striker options then for me that's a similar mistake to last year.

I don't see it happening though. It would be a daft decision when we are doing so much good business.
