Uros Racic 22 y/o Serbian number 8 from Valencia is being touted around the premier and has been offered to us. Know 0% about him but could he be the mysterious number 8 ? Here have an obligatory YouTube vid showing a footballer playing football...

People on this board keep underestimating McGinn. He’s more than “work rate and endeavor.”

“McGinn is a superb ball carrier and has averaged 2.1 successful dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League this season — level with the widely praised Jack Grealish and behind only Keinan Davis (2.4).

As can be seen in his Smarterscout actions map below from the current Premier League season, McGinn loves to pick the ball up deep inside his own half and use his dribbling ability to progress his side forward quickly. Smarterscout also rate his dribbling at 93/99.”

You are right ,on his game he is awesome......but for many reasons mainly bad injury, his form dropped considerably.....if he comes back to his earlier form, i concede, we have less to worry about.....but we don't want a season again of dipping because key players lose form.

I believe we need a specialist CDM to give us that insurance.

With wet spam apparently looking at a 30 million deal for Tarkowski i would be all over that.

Konsa has the mobility pace and passing to step into the DM role.

Also sures up the CB position.

It had crossed my mind too....good shout.

You speak the same language as me .. we are certainly going to need that CM who will be able to do the job consistently throughout the season we need the Mcginn before he got injured to return to give us that extra step. Get rid of davis and samatta and replace only one of them

If we were to play Grealish on the left then it would only be if we had a player like Christian Eriksen through the middle at CAM . Of course a more realistic target but someone with the same qualities and playing style other than that Grealish should be in that position as we have more options to get someone else at LW

I doubt anyone here wouldn’t want a Patrick Veira or a Yaya Toure in the middle of the park but you can’t just go out a pick one up.

At the moment we have Luis with Nakamba as cover - you might think that they are not strong enough and you may be right, but they are probably the best a mid-table to relegation zone team can expect

Its pointless comparing us the Man City or citing Kante, Mackele or Essien as examples of what we need - that sort of player is out of our realm currently.

You mentioned Allan as a player we should aspire to - I would argue that in Luis we have got an equivalent, who at 22 has a higher ceiling

We’ve had a long period in the doldrums - we are not going to turn that round and have a perfect squad overnight, it will take a few more years. We just need to win three or four more games this season - that will be improvement enough for me

I mention these players as clear examples of the type.....not that we could attract that calibre.

But surely it gives a reader an idea of what i am proposing.

I accept incremental improvement.....but its interesting to see folk discussing how we can improve moving forward.

I think Jack signing does seem to indicate, our owners have the bit between their teeth in their ambition for us.....exciting times ahead.

Rob Dorsett on SSN saying we have ended interest in Rashica as he believes it was Traore or Rashica and as we expect Traore to come in then we will no longer want Rashica.

I take this guy with a pinch of salt but we shall see.

I cant believe Sky found a journalist with even shitter knowledge on Villa than Gregg Evans

But they did 😂😂

Dorset also said "There are players Villa are interested in who wanted to know if Jack Grealish would be staying at the club, and keeping him shows those targets the ambition".

Although to be fair, any of us on this board could have come out with that, it is certainly valid.

He's continuously said that we're limited in how much we can spend this summer due to FFP. It could be true or perhaps the club are trying to get that message across to clubs they're trying to negotiate with.

Sky Sports will put a negative spin on Villa spending habits.

Us spending big money and it working out well dose not fit with the general narrative of - Leeds, Beilsa..Leeds, back in the big time ,Leeds, spending big on exciting players.....

It seems like they have little interest in things working out for the Villa.

So which one of those would you drop to play, say, Isaac Hayden (your previous example of the type of player compatible club utilise)?

None.

I would play 4-2-3-1

with CDM alongside Luiz in the 2......when we have the ball luiz could move forward to join Jack and John with CDM holding.

Having a few inches extra in leg length isn't going to make all the difference. McGinn and Luiz break play up through reading the play and then being strong rather than just being a big lump in the middle. It's okay asking for a bigger midfielder but plenty of the bigger midfielders are too slow/can't read the game as well/can't do anything with the ball when if they win it.

The obsession with size doesn't hold water for me. Allan, Kante, Fernandinho, Jorginho, Wijnaldum, Henderson etc etc are not huge.

Yes, there's set-pieces to deal with but a fast attacker running across a slow but bigger defender can still easily score.

I think you will find Henderson is a decent size.....and Fernandino was playing temporary centre back for Man City.

I am not saying there is a silver bullet to defending......but we conceded a huge amount of aerial ball last season, that led to goals......i am merely suggesting improvement, not cast iron solutions.

Part of me thinks that even if we did have a signing to announce, they'd leave it until tomorrow to ensure maximum media exposure.

Any signing today is just going to be overshadowed by Jack signing a new contract.

Over the last day or so I have seen Chris Mepham's name mentioned as someone we are looking at. Guess who he used to play for and work with? Yep, Brentford and Dean Smith, who gave him his first team debut. Lazy guesses from twitter journo wannabes or some truth?

Looked promising for Brentford and Wales but the joined Bournemouth and nosedived quickly, as many players have joining Bournemouth in the past couple of years.

I’d be open to it, would think Smith might be best placed to get him back to pre-Bournemouth form

If people remember back to last season, hause ended up being the only player in a good few games who could head the ball. That was in the entire team.

We were getting pummelled most games.

I can see the planning to set up will be more towards how we ended the season compared to any other part of the season.

The upgrade of keeper and right winger who is duel purpose, should be by the end of tomorrow.

We have upgraded our 1st choice striker who is dual purpose.

Now its flip a coin if we get rashica and we have matt cash as a dual purpose player.

The attacking options have vastly improved but that midfield space occupied by Connor NEEDS to be improved on.

Either a starting CB or a starting CM i imagine is on our incoming list.

Good post.....I too see the benefits of Hause......also seeing his shortfalls.

probably the best header of the ball at the club.....you would introduce him for games like Burnley.

Flashbacks to when Micah Richards was assured Delph, Benteke and Vlaar would not be leaving.
