Relegation thread

We need to do two points better than two of West Ham, Bournemouth and Watford over 8 games. Nice and simple now. I’m on the fence on if we will because none of them are doing very well but not are we!

Wolves, Liverpool and Man Utd after Newcastle.

Honestly i think we are looking at 0 points there. Adama will annihilate us.

Pogba, Fernandes and Martial against our frail defence. Jesus Christ...

Liverpool..yeah we ain't beating those

O.k looking ahead to this week.

Mourinho just said in press conference Lucas Moura is fit. Dele Ali also back after one match ban. With Kane and Son fit you have to think Spurs will have too much firepower for West Ham. They do have a decent recent record away to Spurs though, won 1-0 last season although that was between the two Ajax cl games so Spurs weren't really bothered about it. I would expect Spurs to win.

Bournemouth at Wolves. This is sort of game Wolves like to drop points in but Danny Higginbotham made a good point last week. Without the fans at Molineux demanding Wolves charge forward all the time,Wolves can just sit in and pick off Bournemouth as they please and as they do away from home all the time.

Think Watford will get at least a draw at Burnley as think Burnley will struggle to impose themselves as much without a crowd but I'd be hopefully both on 27 points will lose. We're also first up on the weekend playing Wolves on Saturday lunchtime.

I think this is our last chance tbh. If we're not out of the bottom 3 by Saturday afternoon we won't be getting out of it at any other point in the run in as West Ham have winnable games in last 5.

Reports today that Galatasaray have a deal in place to sign Trezeguet if we're relegated, Mendes supposedly looking for a new club for El Ghazi, Luiz referring to us as 'they' rather than we (albeit that could be a language thing), Grealish knows that he won't be here next season if we go down, Mings and McGinn also know that they don't have to play in the championship either if they don't want to. Makes me wonder how bothered some of our players are if we stay up or not.

I'm not at all surprised with a point from the first two games back - but this lot are looking like they're already beaten. Relegation will suck, but I do remember most folks being honest last season saying we are far better rebuilding in the prem than staying down another year. This still holds for me, as disappointing as it is. It'll be another rebuild, maybe a couple of years in the championship, but give me NSWE and a ton of real money than what we had with Recon last time we went down. We just need to find someone good to spend it - income from Jack, Mings and McGinn, last seasons's FFP written off due to coronavirus, parachute payments - and some talent remaining which should thrive in the championship - I think we can come back a lot stronger next time around.

If we do go down we will be down there for a while like last time, half this squad will want to leave, meaning we will get championship players in yet again, I really ain’t looking forward to next season if we do go down

I think we will be in a much stronger position than last time and would be expecting a top two finish. We'd lose players but dare I say it, even as a championship club we'd probably be able to sign better than players than the ones we signed last summer truth be told, and we wouldn't lose all of them anyway, if they were all so good that they all find new teams upon being relegated then we wouldn't be in this position in the first place.

We went up after 3 seasons, two and a half of which was largely a shambolic affair with two different owners and three managers. If you keep most of your side, sign a couple of good loans and run your club sensibly you should go back up after 2 seasons like Albion. However I would rather avoid this.

We're in a much better position as a club now than we were last time we were relegated, when we were well and truly on our knees with our culture entirely destroyed. I've resigned myself to us going down and i'm okay with it. We'll be back and we'll be better prepared.

Grealish played the first six games as a central midfielder, he didn't score any goals and he assisted two, we also lost four of those games and won one of them, and I remember people on here questioning how good he is and asking if McGinn was the better player, whilst he was still decent, probably still our best player, he wasn't making the impression that  people were expecting. It's only since switching to the wing that his game has improved greatly and he's started adding goals and assists to his game, he was nowhere near as good for us in midield has he has been on the wing.

To stay up, Jack has to play in the middle - that is key. Id like to see el ghazi on the left which is his best position.

We go down, an i right in saying there's no ffp for 12 months?

**we are not going down by the way

AEG on the left, Keinan on the right, Jack behind Samatta and Douglas and McGinn holding. Only way I can see us getting results. We don't offer much of an attacking threat as it stands.

I think Grealish in the middle could work, but not playing 433, we'd have to tweak our system to either a dimaond in the middle, or some variaton of 532 as suggested the other day, at least with that one despite only having two specialist central midfielders we'd have the secruity of another defender, and Davis can drop deep and help out in midfielder as well as he sometimes does anyway, in that formation Grealish could essentially have a free role, it's just a question as to whether now is the best time to be trying new systems, I guess you could argue that we might as well try something.

Feels like the inevitable we’re dropping down again. They had the break to gather their thoughts, get properly pumped and it’s a huge let down. 2 flat performances. Sheffield United were there for the taking and we had nothing.

Then battered by Chelsea in 3rd gear. 2-1 flatters us a lot.

We need goals. We need to be bold in the final third, we aren’t good enough like a Mourinho side to park the bus and nick a win. It isn’t going to happen for us that way.

We’re going down again. Without a wimper, again.

We will beat Newcastle but after that we'll lose the next 3 games and i don't think we'll recover from that.

To be honest, if I was Smith then I would simply ask Jack where HE wants to play and then let him play there because if Jack doesn't get back to stamping his authority on the game then we are down for absolute certain !

Moving him back to midfield means Trezeguet coming back into the team. You sure you want that?

We need 10 points from 8 games. I think we’ll be lucky to get 5 or 6.

Probably worth trying anything at this stage, at the moment I wonder if it's less about the formation and tactics than things like determination, fighting spirit, and lack of confidence. I think we need to at least beat one of Sheffield United or Chelseas to get us going again in that regard, Newcastle is probably our last chance to spark some life back into the season.
