I disagree with this. Yes, Cummings is a word removed, and he should have been sacked, but I'm also pretty sure that the dickheads on the beach would have done that regardless. We simply have a depressingly high percentage of thick bastards in this country.

Agree. Of the 500,000 people on the Bournemouth beaches, I reckon 75% wouldn't have even heard of Cummings.

Don’t doubt it for a second.

But that’s not the point for me. If the people making the rules can choose to ignore them and then basically tell us they don’t give a shit, then they have no moral authority over anyone else doing exactly the same thing.

I will beat them with their own stick at every opportunity. They loosened the rules at least in part to get that guy off a hook, it was more important Cummings runs the joke of a part time prime minister than the rules be observed.

When there are no leaders, you will get 500,000 selfish pricks drinking and shitting on a beach.

Absolut.

The thing that got me was it was a Thursday in term time. 500,000 on one beach must be a record. It’s like people went out of their way to do it as some kind of message to Westminster.

It’s what happens when there’s no plan and you make shit up and change rules to cover the arse of a man who thinks he’s above us. Above you.

An almost perfect blend of arrogance and idiocy.

I saw a post on Facebook saying that on 4th July Skegness pier, arcades, bars, restaurants, cafes, bingo, casino all opening. If this is happening up and down the country how can there not be another wave?

Edit: found the post.

I can’t be the only one who thinks that’s deeply irresponsible?

Companies are greedy. The public is stupid. This is why it can be important to have a strong government who protects its people from themselves. Instead we've got a circus. The chief clown just wants to give people good news.

Do not trust the governments advice. It's legal to go to Primark, but stupid. It's legal to go to the beach, but it's really stupid, and it will be incredibly stupid to go to the pub.

The government's decided it's bored of the pandemic and we should just go to normality. They don't care about their decisions killing thousands more people. I think it's only sensible to put yourself and your family's health first and ignore what the government says.

I'm not so sure about your 'decisions killing thousands more people' thing but there is certainly room for people to make their own calls on stuff allowing for the legal implicatiions and the public health directions.

Simply put, however.

Companies are on the verge of going bust, it’s not greed, it’s desperation.

Two sides of the same coin really. If they can't open safely (and I'd suggest most  pubs, cafes and restaurants can't), they have 3 options, take loans to survive, wind themselves down, or put their staff and customers in harm's way so they can keep trading. Lots of people will do the latter, and it's why we need government to restrict businesses from opening while this is still a significant danger.

Now that the guidance is "do some social distancing, if it's convenient, but if it isn't, don't bother. Use PPE if you think you need to but if you don't it's fine", every company will open, do the bare minimum, and we'll be incredibly lucky if this doesn't necessitate locking some things down again.

Take aways yes, beers in disposable cups through a hatch, ok, but arcades? That’s gonna be a virus factory after about 3 hours. Then the people that have had their hands all over every inch of the place will return back to every corner of the country. Track and trace will have fun with that.

I think a lot of people think that when things like pubs have been opened it’s because it’s safe to use them. Same for shops and arcades.

As a minor aside, has anyone who's had this and suffered from disrupted taste/smell recovered from the symptom?

I completely lost my taste/smell in March, by April it had come back a bit, but anything without a really strong smell/flavour just seem...a bit off. Kind of musty, or rotten. It feels a bit daft trying to get a doctor's appointment because "things smell weird", but it's been nearly 3 months.

I think you should definitely contact your GP.

To be fair, I think there's a consensus emerging that transmission from touching surfaces is not a major vector. That said, I agree that arcades seem like an entirely unnecessary risk. I'm not familiar with the pier in Skegness, but presumably it is an enclosed room, and I doubt there will be anyone enforcing a 'less than fifteen minutes' rule, so I would classify that as too risky personally.

Talking to my parents today and my mum mentioned that one of her friends had caught the virus right back at the start while skiing in France. Apparently she had lost taste and smell completely. Has now recovered a bit of taste, but still can't smell anything.

The message the government has sent has been terrible and is a large part of the reason for people behaving like utter tubes. I agree a second lockdown, or at least large scale regional lockdowns, are likely to be necessary as a result of what's been done. The trend will shoot back up again.

The thing is pete you can only blame politicians do much sometimes us as individuals have to take responsibility as well. Easing restrictions to us we know we still have to keep our distance as the virus isnt gone.. But you hear so many idiots on the beaches saying we are keeping our distance and they have about 5 groups practically shagging them as they are so close to them!

People can be selfish sadly and as @Mandy Lifeboats says we are likely to have a secind wave because people Re not listening. I do think it will be regional lockdowns though
