Anyone got any guesses on how long the lockdown is going to go on for.

I've gotta be honest I'm starting to really struggle with it, I haven't had a face to face conversation with anyone in 3 weeks, I'm miserable working from home, I live in a one bedroom flat, I am pretty much living in 2 rooms 24/7, I've started drinking pretty heavily again (trying to knock that on the head)

I always said that working from home wouldn't do my mental health much good but working from home and not being allowed to go outside is really taking its toll on me.

As you say probably best to knock the heavy drinking on the head as that is unlikely to contribute to good health or a positive state of mind.

Do you get out much for just to go for a walk or do some exercise? I hadn't been out for a while but took the dog out today and it does help just to get out.

Good luck with it all and it won't be like this forever👍

The furlough scheme is for 3 months. My guess is the government chose that as the absolute latest time it would take to massively increase ICU and other care capacity, stock pile certain meds, PPE and whatever other gubbins they need.

The aim (IMO) is to manage a much higher rate of infection while shielding the vulnerable, to achieve a measure of herd immunity before the winter flu season starts up and the economy withers to nothing.

Soon as they think the NHS is ready we’ll all be out and about again. Best case, reckon that’s 4-6 weeks from now.

yep, I go out for a good walk pretty much every day on my lunch break, I'm just waiting for my brain to level off a little bit and I'll be fine, its just tough at the minute.

I know how you feel @leemond2008 as I live in a flat with no outdoor space. This weekend has been tough as I haven't had work to distract me. I'm lucky I guess in that I am still working, albeit it, permanently at home now. I 'guestimate' that end of May lockdown will be relaxed. We can't stay locked down forever as the economy will collapse and there will be nothing to come back to.

It has made me determined to move though, once everything starts to go back to normal.

I'm going with the june 6th prem league kick off. In reality I think schools will be sooner. Not so certain we'll have testing and tracking in place at the right time but I've moved on to the mindset of missing the lockdown already.

Another one in the same boat as @leemond2008 . Been home alone in my flat for the best part of four weeks now. No face to face contact with anyone other than the checkout girl at Tesco’s on the two occasions I’ve been there. I thought I was doing ok until yesterday when I had a proper blue day. Even as an introvert, the lack of human contact is horrible.

My other half (who, by the way will be getting the best 20 seconds of her life when this is all over) said she spoke to the little ones teacher today and they haven’t been told officially but their planning is to have the kids back in following the May half term.

Nah, dont believe it.

Lovely silent, isolated, care homes. Where cheap death can transpire. And f*ck the plebs who work there. Said Cummings.

Yep, I'm misanthropic at the best of times, I think it is the not being allowed to go out that is bothering me more than anything, before this I would go to the cinema twice a week, I would go to the gym, 3 times a week, not social activities but it got me out of the flat for a few hours.

Just watched a video on fb, guy had his flat door kicked in by 4 or 5 police officers to check he wasn’t having a gathering. He refused to open the door as he said he was isolating. Must be a bit more to it, but still, feels like another case of police over stepping the mark.

You could see it in the police officers faces as they were being filmed and the flat was empty they had **** up and would be in a spot of bother.

Strange one that. If the police were banging on my door I would just open it. Could be a setup!

Have to say, if I was on my own (you may just be antisocial) I'd wank myself to death by now - but as I'm stuck in a family of 4 with two young kids, that perspective is only an odd fantasy - full respect to anyone feeling lonely right now, but if it's any comfort, not being lonely is also difficult - i.e. we're all struggling - so solidarity chaps.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but are care homes the equivalent to what nursing homes/retirement communities are in Ireland/US?

I'd assumed care homes were places for people with  severe special needs. In Ireland a huge proportion of the deaths have occurred in nursing homes unfortunately.

And, again, I wouldn't be surprised if by tomorrow they can't hide it this way either. I predict we'll have jumped above Italy's curve tomorrow, and not far off France's at all.

Is it not just a 100% reflection of a society that thinks care homes are antechambers? They probably are, but we clearly do not value people who are old or weak - sadly I think this is a very typical British problem. F*ck all empathy,

Thoughts and prayers I guess.

Maybe stuff like this can lead to people actually thinking for themselves or listening to the people who actually have a clue. But of course it won't

VIRGINIA PASTOR DIES FROM COVID-19... 3 Weeks After Holding Packed Service

The evangelical pastor who vowed to keep preaching unless he was "in jail or the hospital" has died of COVID-19 ... only weeks after defiantly opening his church doors.

Bishop Gerald Glenn showed off his jam-packed congregation back on March 22 at the New Deliverance Evangelistic Church in Richmond, VA ... telling followers to stand up and prove their numbers ... despite social distancing guidelines and warnings against large gatherings in the face of the coronavirus pandemic.

His church announced that Glenn died on, of all days, Easter Sunday from COVID-19 a week after testing positive for the novel coronavirus.

During that infamous in-person service, the Bishop said he firmly believed God was larger than the virus and said he was proud of being "controversial" for violating safety protocols. The Bishop also claimed he was an "essential" worker, saying he's a preacher and he talks to God.

The Bishop's wife, Marcietia Glenn, is also infected with COVID-19.

The couple's daughter, Mar-Gerie Crawley, reportedly said her father dismissed his symptoms at first because he has a health condition that often results in fevers and infections. Now, she's urging everyone to stay home, saying the virus has become very real to her.

Yes and no. It can vary quite a lot. I'm no expert but my mom worked at a couple towards the end of her career.

One was a "retirement community" where it was old people who had retired and lived in their own apartments. But they had communal restaurants and common areas and such. Some had carers some didn't, but that was arranged externally.

The second one was a retirement home where they didn't have their own apartments, some had carers which were employed by the home. Some didn't. Some had 24 hour care some didn't.

Then there are specialist care homes for, as you say, people with special needs who can't be accommodated by a "normal" (for want of a better word) home.

So whether "care homes" is a term that is being used to encompass all of these, I'm not sure. I suspect it is.
