*We are not allowed to just take a walk or a bike ride to get fresh air

This is what will do my head in if this happens here. We are just starting to come out of a long winter.

Johnson is trying to explain about what actually happens about schools and children of key workers. It is the most bumbling load of old shit that I have heard in ages - "Er, I hope that's all clear." Frankly, no, not at all. And it didn't sound like it was in any way clear to you, either. Absolutely woeful.

For context, I thought he was doing better than normal a little earlier when talking about a few other things (though he was still very wishy-washy and non-committal about what they were actually intending to do for those who may have already lost jobs, for example).

That's no **** way to live. And we're talking about this maybe lasting a year, perhaps longer? **** that, I'll take my chances. I don't want to live a year under house arrest.

Yeah I get that, wasn't aimed at you as such, I know you weren't saying it.

Makes me wonder though. How many deaths are we willing to tolerate to prevent life being completely shit for everyone.

I think I'd rather top myself than spend a year at home not allowed to go out to do anything or see friends or family.

Being under house arrest for a year is not living anyway so might as well go out, get fully COVID-19'd up and take your chances......

Jeez.....get a grip ffs

i'm assuming these posts are tongue in cheek....

In that all the various departments involved are still on phones to each other right now trying to work it out, he couldn’t possibly have explained the plan earlier today.

But it is commendable that they are trying to plan for it.

Hospitals in Sweden are bracing themselves for a boom of new cases towards the coming week. So far it's the calm before the storm.

They're also facing huge problems with a shortage of personal after pre-schools and daycare have started to close. So many essential nurses and even doctors are forced to stay at home because their children have no where to be. It's starting to become a huge issue as there is already a big shortage of stuff in the Swedish health care system.

I fully get closing schools and such but there is also a flip side. Difficult times.

I will still be attempting to drink my usual 10 units a week, I'm just not going to be tempted to get smashed if I'm banged up in the house

People need to avoid doing this from a mental health perspective too.  I made this mistake last weekend and with everything going on I’ve felt lower than ever.

Will they try and force my wife to work on the wards as she's an NHS worker? She is an ADHD specialist and has nothing to do with hospitals whatsoever but there's been mutterings of people redeployed

Merkel has said its the hardest times and biggest test since the end of the 2nd World War

Jeremy Hunt made a similar comment last night when he said  he regrets cutting social care, and not training more doctors & nurses.  :)

Tin foil hat on: Anyone think that China are holding back from reporting new cases for now but will report a huge lump of them before long that they will blame on Europe and other countries not acting in time so the party can come out of it blameless?

Morrisons this morning wasn't too bad. The only things on my list that were totally sold out were lentils and tinned tomatoes. Surprisingly, their cafe was open - and full of old folks.

I'm going to brave Morrison's tomorrow. I'm fine for bog tissue and stuff, its food i'm low on!

If quarantine does go beyond 3-4 weeks -people will just start saying sod it. I mean, if they close down going for walks that would be nuts. You can keep your distance from people easily enough, and get fresh air and stretch legs. Being cooped up, for months... well it'll be the greatest pr for prison reform advocates who want to persuade people 23 hours in a cell is inhuman

Go on and tell me how every other country in this global pandemic is doing it so well and so great then.

i was chatting to a client today and he said that 20 years ago we wouldn't have been able to detect covid-19 and people would have just got on with their lives as per normal. It would have simply been recorded in the future as a bad year for flu deaths but no-one would have none the wiser. A life of  blissful ignorance sometimes seems better!

Fortunately for me, my wife is at home so can look after the kids now the schools are closed.

unfortunately for the kids, the wife has planned out their days of school work already!

I have an option of working from home but also could be redeployed temporarily to another department.
