Fans may have to show proof of vaccination to enter large capacity Sports Stadia from September (just announced on BBC Sport)

Go get your jabs booked boys and girls. I've a feeling slots might be hard to come by in the next few weeks as large numbers of people suddenly feel like they might want to be jabbed after all. 😁

I just got pinged to say I need to self isolate for 7 days.

Absolutely no idea how that is. I’ve not “checked in” anywhere for weeks.

How has it happened? Is there a way to check?

Edit: seems like it doesn’t matter. It works off Bluetooth, and it’s deemed I’ve been within 2 meters of someone for 15 minutes or more who has tested positive. Can only be when I went into the office on Friday.

Are you going to isolate? I have no desire to have that app.

I should have deleted it, but will in 7 days for sure. Not going to let it ruin my holiday.

I’ll do my best with isolating…

Someone has probably skipped past your house.

I think my favourite person in that video is the woman complaining that this is going to turn into a socialist utopia. The horror :D

the logic is not about viral transmission

When you’ve got a major and growing problem with viral transmission, maybe that ought to be the number one focus?  Just a thought.

the fire is  getting bigger and smoke is spreading throughout the building, but we’re not going to stop people entering it, because that wouldn’t be fair on those not yet issued with breathing apparatus

Actually I suspect it’s (this supposed policy) another “nudge” to get the kiddies to go get vaccinated because the young ‘uns love their sport and nightclubs. Libertarian Tory whoppers. Just **** grow a pair and lead.

Woah, hold on there.  I drink in Utopia quite often!

Strange really as it is in town so technically I'm not allowed.

Looks like it can be anytime up to 14 days ago. Pretty much impossible to know then, and I’ve hardly been anywhere!

Just did a test and it was negative.

That's one way of looking at it, and a fair argument. But another is that if you want buy-in - to the vaccines, to the remaining restrictions, perhaps most importantly to future restrictions - from young people, then it needs to look like this isn't just an assault on them. The simple truth is that young people have pretty good odds when catching covid; even the delta variant is very very unlikely to give them a serious illness. Lots feel that they have given up more than a year of their lives for the benefit of their elders, and they're not keen for their elders to get to go out and live their lives first.

People are tiring of complying with covid restrictions; eventually may be a big backlash; they don't need to stoke that fire with a lot of generational resentment, especially if the fear is we may all have to be stuck in our houses again come late autumn.

There’s a ton of stuff to go on, in there. Firstly, statistically the odds are pretty good for everyone, but best for the young, true. Still the hospitals are still filling up with unvaccinated youngish people.

secondly, this notion of dividing people up (you’re not, you’re just referencing perceptions, to be clear) is really tangential and missing the key point. “We’ve sacrificed loads for the olds” is both divisive and simplistic and essentially untrue. It might seem like it, but it’s not true, fundamentally. But that’s maybe for another post.

People are tired of the restrictions, I am, you are, we all are. The government has been appalling in this. We’ve all had these in significant part because they’ve effed up, and they’re doing it again. It’s true that trust and willingness to comply is reduced by trips to Barnard Castle, or weazling out of isolation, like Gove and like Johnson and Sunak tried to ( it’s a random selection trial, not something that can be voluntarily joined). That’s where the backlash is whipped up.

But ultimately the government is treating the virus like a political enemy, posturing and preening as if it can be defeated by argument or vote. It can’t. It needs treating as what it is, measures to stop it need to be the priority, not “ooh, steady on, this might not appear fair to this segment of the electorate”. They surely realise that the greatest boost they could get would be to actually render it a minor irritant to life, rather than the thing that’s killed 150,000 people and is clogging up hospitals, stopping people getting educated, giving folk long term problems and all the other myriad impacts.

They’re scared of their own tail “will this nudge to get vaccinated to get in to the football go down well?”  They need to have some spine. COVID Vaccines work. We know this. JFDI. Lilly livered words removed.

Full capacity football grounds will be a significant spreader . Rammed public transport full of fans, some of them drinking. Rammed pubs full of fans not really giving a ****. Then inside the grounds where room is short.

Perfectly safe, mate. The government says so.

I went down to Gunwharf Quays shopping centre in Portsmouth today and I'd say 75% of people weren't wearing masks, most of them young.  Cases are going to rocket up.

I virtually live across the road from the place :D.  I hope you had a nice time.  All around Old Portsmouth is lovely if you don't know it.

I've been avoiding Gunwharf for far too long and now that restrictions are removed, I think I'm going to wait that little bit longer for this 2nd jab to kick in.

Won’t be long into the season before numbers are slashed. There’s 3-4 reasons why I haven’t renewed and 2 of them are Covid related .

Don’t mean to be a pedant, but it’s only going to be safe until September. Then it’ll be dangerous again and will need a reverse of some of the irreversible freedoms.

Well I bought some discount Levis shorts that I probably could have got cheaper online anyway but it was good to be out.  Nice spot to live.
