HanoiVillan
@blandy I disagree with pretty much all of that Anyway, agree to disagree. Have a lovely weekend
fightoffyour Posted May 14, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted May 14, 2021 We can’t keep locking down just in case vaccines aren’t quite as effective against a potential new strain. Might as well lockdown forever in case a completely new, more deadly virus appears.

I'd hope the worst it is will be prioritising jabs and mass testing in those areas and reluctantly delaying indoor socialising there. I've not really been in favour of locking down the whole country for regional outbreaks but they are right to take a safety-first approach to new strains imo. I'm not entirely sure whether for all the carnage it's done in India, whether the people lucky enough to be vaccinated have been ok. We seemed to have coped with the SA and Brazilian strains ok but I assume with our demographic, the Indian is more likely to get brought over. HanoiVillan
For the record, I'm completely fine with prioritising vaccinations in communities where rates show signs of rising.

The Indian strain will be / already has been brought over, but there’s no evidence that the vaccine isn’t protective against it. We didn’t used to take a safety first approach to every new virus that cropped up. Also all for prioritising vaccines locally.

I guess a problem with targeting and prioritising jabs for areas where there has been a rise in cases but an already low uptake is making them take it. ender4
When we get to the last 10% of the population who think Bill Gates will control your mind and body if you have the vaccine... should we offer a free hotdog or ice-cream cone with a jab? I think free food always wins the day!

The cones aren't going to swing it unless it's those expensive waffle ones that don't make you feel like our eating ice cream out of recycled newspaper sheets glued together. They already have the booster signal!

I've had the vaccine and he's certainly not controlling me! Incidentally has anyone considered switching to Edge for their web browsing? It's undoubtedly the best browser for shopping Microsoft Edge is the only browser with built-in tools to help you save time and money when shopping online. How about using Bing to find that special site while you are at it?
bickster Posted May 14, 2021 Moderator Share Posted May 14, 2021 Those Bolton maps look like they hold the key but I wouldn't be so sure. There is one other area in the NW with high rates and that is actually where I live. I've not seen a vaccination map of that area but I fully expect it not to look like the Bolton one. Affluent area, low population density, low amounts of Asian population and a much higher than average population age. Half the kids are off school again, the Swimming Pool has closed down for a ten day deep clean (an outbreak centered here) and the pub closest to my house also closed as an outbreak was spotted there too. I really would be astounded if this was an area with low vaccine take up

That one county vaccinated more people than the rest of the state put together
