Well that's the sinister thing.

When vaccine passports were first floated, people were massively against them as a huge restriction on liberties.

The new ideas are much worse, making the vaccine passports look normal.

I do wonder though if there wasn’t such a backlash against the suggestion of them there wouldn’t be an extension to the travel ban for *all people?

Obviously doesn’t include rich and/or well connected people.

Considering that majority of people are now vaccinated (nearly all at any serious risk) and the fact that it looks like travel will be severely restricted, it is a conspiracy to suggest the politicians in charge want us to get back to normal.

Whilst there’s talk of will they / won’t they allow holidays to Europe, is anyone actually offering travel insurance inclusive of Covid?
Do such policies exist?
If not I can see the stories now, Sandra and Steve both ended up being evicted from the hotel after contracting Covid in Spain. They were moved to a hospital and then a quarantine hotel and now owe “Spain” £15,000 because their £11 policy from confused.com didn’t include the right level of cover.

An esteemed Yale prof described covid as a bad flu *now* in an appearance on Bloomberg this morning.

Progress.

Well for some people it is.

And a bad flu killed over fifty million people in 1918.

I've been looking at going away later this summer... I just picked an area in Wales and looked at a pub with rooms and this was on their safety page (below)

I know they're only following rules, but bloody hell. i'd rather not go away if this is what its going to be like.

1 death in the UK following the latest announcement and these are the hoops to jump through when things open up in mid May

I wonder, very likely next year we will still have 1-10 deaths a day, much like with flus etc.

Will this sort of control/regulation still be happening?

I stay in hotels once or twice a month. That’s how it’s been for the last 14 months. With the added restriction of limited menu that can only be eaten in your own room.

It’s already easing back. Last week hotels had seats and tables outside for drinks and meals.

It’ll be a lot more normal in July or August.

Yeah cos closing the ones in the bar forcing everyone to use the others really cuts down the amount of people in once space... saves on cleaning two bogs though

Put the dishwasher on a high enough temperature and you won't need disinfectant

A lot of people in rich counties have been vaccinated. But most of the world hasn't. If you open up travel, people start jetting off to different locations with lower vaccination rates and bringing back new, vaccine resistant variants. Time for the west to stop hoarding all the vaccines, get them out where they needed, then maybe international travel can return to some sort of normality.

But right now aren't we talking about a theoretical danger of vaccine resistant variants? While it seems that the South African strain is more resistant, the people who have caught it after having the vaccine only experienced mild symptoms (if they even got infected as they still have some protection) and as far as I can find in research, no deaths in such cases have been recorded.

There could always be a new variant, sure. But right now that doesn't seem to affect the vaccinated population badly.
