So even people who are away will have to come back early to avoid problems. It really shouldn’t apply to people who have gone in the previous week, let them finish their trip (within reason). It just causes unnecessary hassle.
foreveryoung
"Direct flights are banned from most red list countries, but not Pakistan, Bangladesh, Kenya and India. The government says this is to allow critical freight and make it easier for British nationals to return home". This is the biggest problem still surely? 1
markavfc40
Whatever happened to the green watch list that the government said on May 7th was designed to help give people early warning that a country is at risk of being moved off the green list. Portugal has gone straight from green to amber with 5 days notice. Another load of bollocks then.

Real not real answer: a huge spike in cases meant Portugal had to be moved immediately from green to amber. This fact should certainly be one for both the 'just close the borders!' and the 'just copy the Kiwis' brigades to ponder.

It was absolutely essential business, at least in terms of keeping our company afloat. His original plan was 4 weeks, with the hope that UAE would come off the red list. There was still no sign of that happening, though, so he flew to Portugal on Saturday where he was able to spend 10 days on holiday rather than 10 days in an airport hotel prison. As a side note, the hotel prisons aren't at every airport so he would've had to fly into London or Bristol to quarantine even though his car is parked at Manchester... In order to fulfil his obligations of 10 days outside of a red-listed country before being "free" in the UK, he flies back next Wednesday. So that now means that he's got to do even more tests when he's back, and self-isolate for a further 10 days. I'm all for keeping the UK safe, but the UAE and Portugal are both countries with minimal numbers of concern, and yet he's stuck in the middle of this absolute palaver. He could fly to Gibraltar before Tuesday and until Wednesday?
