Portugal in the relegation zone apparently.

That's going to cause some serious grief.

The price to pay to see the 21st June openings continue?

Looks like this is happening, and will come into effect on Tuesday. So even people who are away will have to come back early to avoid problems.

It really shouldn’t apply to people who have gone in the previous week, let them finish their trip (within reason).

It just causes unnecessary hassle.

Anyone that has gone to that Abroadia and hasn't factored the possibility of the country being degreenlisted while they were away is just a little bit silly

Anyone that has booked to go to that Abroadia and hasn't factored the possibility of the country being degreenlisted before their departure date is just a little bit silly

If you can't do the time don't do the crime... sorry.... holiday

It’s just interesting to know what the reasoning is. Portugal’s cases and deaths are very low, flat lines. The only changed metric is UK cases are on an increase as we open up, which is exactly what you’d expect to happen. As we pass the most important 50% of people being fully vaccinated, why would it be a problem or at least an unforeseen problem that would make them change their mind about Portugal?

The PCR test industry is more important than the aviation industry and turning Blackpool into the busy place anyone has ever seen in order to boost the UK economy is more important than people being able to visit family abroad.

I'm honestly beyond fuming at this point. And the likely outcome.

CON: 49 (+7)

The glorious leader is nowhere to be seen after dropping this **** bombshell either. Only wants to be seen when there's good news about.

If there was data behind it then it could be understood, but as has been mentioned in this thread already, it doesn’t seem to make any sense at this stage.

Last week the talk was that Spanish islands would be added to the green list… now nothing added and Portugal removed.

What data could there be?

Cases shouldn't be driving any restrictions, it should 100% be deaths and hospitalisations.

Portugal have had single digit daily deaths for a couple of weeks it seems.

Are our government of the opinion that ANY Covid death justifies restrictions?

We should also look at the trending data. it's a 3 week delay between infection and death, so that data should be used as well.

This is just planting the seed for the inevitable delay of 21st June isn't it?

Nope. This is a desperate action to try to save 21st June. They know it's political suicide to not do it so they'll **** over and lie to whoever they need to to meet that date. We're 100% opening up on 21st regardless even if we have to do an about face a couple of weeks later when they realise they've massively **** up.

But why? I just can’t figure out why now, when the time to be this cautious was a year and a few months ago and again before Christmas. It’s like they’re trying to look good and not make the same mistake again but not basing decisions on any data or sense ... again. Backward.

And they're willing to sacrifice the travel industry and anyone with family abroad to do it.

Death and hospitalisation data 😉

However, it seems there is no supporting data so I’m intrigued to know what reason they’ve dreamed up for this.

Is there something political going on in the background with the EU maybe?

Should it? I know people who got the virus who were doing marathons and wolf runs etc before who now can't walk a mile without needing to sit down. None of them went to hospital.

That's way too anecdotal to drive any restrictions. Some people have a car accident and can't walk afterwards. We don't restrict driving.
