We will be shutting down later today, nothing going on. Barely any work coming in! Me and my dad will float in at some point once a day to check on the place and read emails etc.

My uncle who makes high spec gauges etc says he will be closed by the end of the week and will probably have to lay people off unless the 80% wages portal gets up and running soon!

The impression I get is a lot of older people feel like this. if we get it we get it.

My mom was a bit like that although I think she's realised now how serious it is.

Totally irresponsible behaviour.

This is definitely right, and the woman on the call is undoubtedly a complete idiot, but I can't help thinking this is partly on the government for not making graphically clear how serious this is. Back in the day, when we wanted people to slow down, we weren't afraid of graphic imagery. I remember the advert with the broken girl's bones fitting back together, and the Irish drink-driving advert with a picnic of squashed children. Nowadays, we put horrific images of clogged arteries and deformed organs on this side of cigarette packets. It shouldn't be beyond advertisers to devise communications that would hammer home that you might get this and you might die, and then run them in every gap between programs on every TV channel. However, for some reason, despite clear evidence that many people simply don't think this will affect them, this sort of thing hasn't been commissioned. People downplaying the severity of the virus haven't been taken off air - they didn't even issue a statement contradicting Tim Martin last week.

Sleazy Brexity businessman treats staff like garbage

Who would have thunk it

Seems like they are paying people for the hours worked in march, then staff to be furloughed as the business is closed, next payment will be the 80% promised by the government next month. Seems pretty much the same as every other business that has been forced to close. Sure the guys a cock but don't really see an awful lot wrong here, If people want to get another job in the meantime to try and earn more money rather than being furloughed then feel free to do so and if you want to come back when we are open you will be first in line.

Completely agree with this. A pretty reasonable video if people actually watch it. The fact that he's guaranteeing people that they can get their job back if they take short term employment in supermarkets seems a good idea and acknowledges the fact that the supermarkets will need people to take up the additional positions available.

Not really sure what else he could do at present to be honest.

People face fines starting at £30 for breaking rule about holding gatherings in public, No 10 says

The Downing Street lobby briefing has just finished. The prime minister’s spokesman said the police would be given the power to fine people who break the rule about holding gatherings of more than two people in public. The fines will initially be set at £30, but the level could increase “significantly” if there is widespread evidence of people refusing to comply with the rules, the spokesman said.

The prime minister’s spokesman said the police would be given the power to impose fines on people who do not comply with the rules announced yesterday.

The fines would initially be set at £30, but the level could increase “significantly”, he said. He said that the power to impose these fines would be in place by Thursday, and that they would be used in particular to stop gatherings of more than two people in public. This power would be introduced by regulation in England under the Public Health (Control of Disease) Act, he said. He said Wales would bring in its own regulations, and that Scotland and Northern Ireland would get the power to act under the coronavirus bill.

Anyone think it's beyond Trump to put forward a "cure" from a company that him or his cohorts have financial interest in?

Can easily see him promote some iffy drug with little or no science behind it as THE cure so that his pals and him can profit from it while people keep dying.

Off topic but Trump isn't a successful businessman. He has a load of inherited money. He failed and bankrupted about 7 businesses. He lost money running a casino ffs :D

Haha, you didn’t watch the video, did you? I say that because what you wrote has no relation at all to what he actually said.

But Brexit, eh? B*****ds.

And to be fair, for many of us, the government will be paying 80% of that.

Irony defined isn’t it.

We know the country is about to be on its arse financially and an awful lot of people will be out of work but if we catch you walking around without a good reason we’ll fine you.

Its like when banks give you a penalty fee for going into an overdraft.

Outstanding business practice.
