So a decent away point at Brighton and quickly into Tuesdays game under thee lights at VP.

Having watched Watford this week against Spuds they are not going to be an easy opponent. The Ostrich has got them organized and they are tenacious in the tackle, win a lot of 2nd balls and make lots of naughty tackles to stop the counter. They also have weapons upfront - in the case of Deeney an actual weapon and Delefeou is in good form.

I hope we can pull a decent performance out of somewhere and the crowd will play a big part for sure.

As must-wins go, this is fairly huge.

It doesn't look as though we'll have our new Tanzanian superstar eligible for Tuesday so I'd go with:

                Reina

    Konsa Mings Hause

Guilbert                Targett

         Luiz Nakamba

              Grealish

      Trezeguet/El Ghazi

               Vassilev

Subs: Nyland, Chester/Engels, Hourihane, Drinkwater, El Ghazi/Trez, Taylor, Lansbury

Thought we looked completely lost today without a designated striker on the pitch and the introduction of Vassilev certainly changed things. We need to stop pushing Jack out to the left hand side and just let him roam.

Engels. Hause made so many indicidual errors today. Given him benefit of the doubt against city but giving the ball away so many times in your own half is basic. Needs to be dropped. Would even put chester in if he was fit

Is Engels fit?

Most passes and 2nd best Villa passing percentage 46 of 53 attempted.

Most clearances for a defender 6

Most interceptions for a defender 3

Chester won't play on left because he's not left footed

If Samatta is eligible id go 3-4-3 with the flat 4 In midfield and have Targett and Guilbert starting with Luiz n Nakamba as DM’s.

if no Samatta then Id go 3-4-3 but with the 4 in a diamond. After his performance today id throw in Vassilev because his running makes a difference. Nakamba as DM Guilbert/ Luiz  on the right, Hourihane/Luiz on the left and Jack in the 10 role.Having Guilbert in a diamond is risky but his tenacity is vital to us.  On the wings AEG and Trezeguet. They have a strong midfield so we need to cram the middle and play through them The diamond 4 is a risk but we should keep possession better because our players will be closer together.

Thats right stat man. How many of his missed placed passes led directly to a chance created for brighton, 100%?

Ismaila Sarr caused us a lot of problems at Vicarage Road. Saw him go down with a hamstring injury yesterday so he will be out at least.

The midfield battle will be painfully mismatched in their favour which is a concern. Going to need everyone to be at their maximum, which is a big ask with such a quick turnaround. A win will be massive, been poor at Villa Park for a long time now; hopefully the fans can transmit optimism into the starting XI

Games don't get much bigger than this one! A win will take us back above our visitors and out of the bottom three. Watford were 3-2 winners , when they last visited Villa Park in 2015. Prior to that, they had lost five and had drawn twice at B6, since winning 2-0 on their first ever league visit in 1969. They did the double over us that year and finished 2 points above us, in that 1969-70 season, that ended with our being relegated to the Third Division. We won our next home game against them 3-0. This by then, was a First Division fixture, and we were by then, reigning champions of Europe. They were also then managed by the late and much missed, future Villa boss Graham Taylor. Who would have forecast those future happenings back in 1969 and 1982?

Overall, we have won 6 and have drawn 5 of the 19 previous league meetings, that there have been between the two clubs. We really desperately need to win this one, as anything less will leave us with a mountain to climb, to secure our hard earned Premier League place. A win will give us some confidence to take into the run-in and can get us into the winning habit. A draw would be better than an unthinkable defeat, but the time has come to win our home games, particularly when they are against the clubs that are around us. Just win it for us Villa! :flag:
